NSW Labor State Secretary Sam Dastyari reminds me of the unlikely fellow on top of the train in the latest Mars Bar advert.  You know, the guy who finds himself sent out to beat the odds and save the train as it plunges wildly to certain tragedy.

A tenuous link to the mess the ALP finds itself in…

The train is out of control (thanks Julia), there’s ice on the tracks (a metaphor for the slippery slope of their Federal alliance with the Greens), and a whole bunch of seemingly qualified and capable people are sitting quietly while they hurtle to their doom.

The by-line of the ad is a play on the phrase “with power comes great responsibility”. Which is both fitting and hugely ironic.

According to Sophie, it’s easy to be guided down the path of irresponsible idealism and “we know better” condescension when you’re in Opposition.  It’s indulgent, but probably keeps you warm at night. Yes, Sophie, you’re right. That’s what you’re doing. Read more »

The difference is and just like the GST, you’ll at least to get to vote for the maternity leave policy, unlike the carbon tax which was based on a lie before the last election. And Gillard said there’ll be no carbon tax with a straight face too. Read more »

Beware the politician who likes to claim moral superiority above other politicians.  They will likely be proven to be a hypocrite.  For today’s prize winner, meet Bob Brown.

Brown has betrayed his stance against preference deals. Photo: Sam Mooy.

Brown likes to pretend that his party, the Greens, represent some form of new politics.  They claim to stand on principle.  In reality, they stand for themselves.  There’s nothing wrong with that, but don’t try to con voters otherwise.

Like the Christian crusader who gets outed visiting brothels, the holier than thou political change agent who strikes the same old political deals deserves our scorn.
