In Europe, a Ukrainian feminist movement protests against prostitution and for women’s rights by getting their tits out, donning long blonde wigs, putting flowers in their hair and getting in lots of trouble.

Femen’s latest protest ended with the KGB arresting an Australian filmmaker, and three other women were reportedly forced to strip, doused in petrol, and abandoned in a forest.
While it has ended badly for the individuals, the movement itself has worldwide coverage of its uncovered members and its causes.

Animal rights activists get a bad rap. Reactions to those who dare to speak out against animal abuse reveal a level of vitriol rarely aimed at any other group of social justice campaigners.

They are assumed to be a bunch of unwashed, dope-smoking, dole-bludging criminals.
‘Extremist’, ‘terrorist’ and ‘militant’ are the stock standard descriptors churned out whenever animal advocates engage in various forms of activism that challenge us to shake up our thinking.

John, you might want to analyze what you read a little bit better. I actually said that I don’t agree with everything that PETA preaches… In fact, for the most part I don’t agree with them as an organization. What it’s looking like is that you are a classic example… Read more »

Clover Moo here, reporting once again from the shady corner of the paddock.

I know what you’re thinking in that oversized human brain of yours. Wait a minute, I sound like that godawful ANZ ad.
Anyway, I’m guessing you’re sick of the carbon tax, right? Well, me too. If I read one more word about it in the old newsprint down in the chook shed, I swear I’ll start squirting Yakult out my udders.

Reality Check: all animals, since the beginning of time have disposed of their gases into the ether capacious. Now, there would have been more animals, larger animals back in those times so one would expect that the disposal would be greater. We now have a lesser number of animals so… Read more »

An event the size of a World Cup will always have surprises but a few weeks ago it must have been impossible odds that at the end of the tournament it would be a cephalopod, not a player, that everyone would be talking about.

Paul the octopus is a bigger global star than Andres Iniesta, the man who scored the winning goal deep in extra time to win Spain their first World Cup.
And Paul should now be allowed to stay in his tank. Since his predictions started making headlines last month the world’s most media-savvy animal rights campaigners PETA have been arguing Paul should be set free. What a bunch of killjoys.

Your comment:I actually think that one of the most refreshing stories to eventuate out of the FIFA World Cup is the wondrous story of Paul the Oktopus(his name was inspired from a German poem, Paul the Oktopus). You may have seen this photo this morning taken by a photographer from local Melbourne newspaper the Preston Leader.

The common Grey Kangaroo (let’s call him Joey McCutie to personalise the plight of the species) had just been hit by and was laying seriously injured on the tram tracks in Bundoora. Here are the Leader and Herald-Sun stories.
The police officer’s decision to shoot Joey McCutie twice in the head was apparently a pretty sensible decision in light of its injuries, but it has prompted some pretty odd criticism from the RSPCA.

Has anyone of you considered the death of joey when the roo is shot? One shot, two lives!! If the cop could remove the injured kangaroo to a safer place and waited for a Wildlife ranger, we would have more chance to save one of the lives at least. It’s… Read more »

probably a bit late now, but those nimrods complaining about the two shots. you are actually trained to fire twice; it is called a double tap. Additionally, that Smith and Wesson revolver that the officer is using is useless. Renowned for total inaccuracy even at point blank range. Why on… Read more »

When the extreme animal rights group PETA complained about President Barack Obama swatting a fly, the penny finally dropped for me.
For a long time I’ve read comments from PETA and thought these people can’t be for real. Vets and sensible animal welfare organisations regularly work with my office and Department to deliver better labeling for free range eggs, or improving the safety of animals being transported.
But PETA runs a completely different set of campaigns that can only be described as bizarre. They oppose kids being allowed to keep goldfish. They oppose horse riding. And they even oppose guide dogs for the vision impaired.
