Leave

When I look back, I remember the years my four children were young as “The Dark Ages”.

The Obamas avoid parental leave by going to work together

Not because they were terrible, in fact they were incredibly rewarding, but because life seemed to dissolve into a blur of shift work (my partner was then working as a chef), dropping kids off at kinder, school or childcare, and trying my hardest to be everything to everyone, a good mum at home and an effective nurse at work.

I doubt we were the only couple to pop open a bottle of champagne the day our youngest started school.

Surely if the bloated unions stopped ripping off their members at brothels etc and halved their membership fees, families wouldn’t have to work so hard to keep the corrupt unions afloat and actually spend more time with their families. Instead of bashing small business again, why don’t union officials halve… Read more »

If people spent as much time improving themselves as they do whinging about what others should give them, we could all pay less tax! I like to play tennis on Monday mornings, and some weeks I do, and that’s ok with my employer. Why is this so? Because I have… Read more »

Are you on annual leave right now? If so, you’re already doing better than one third of Australians who toil on through the entire year without taking a breath.

And there’s a very good chance you’re ruining your break entirely.  Be honest – have you checked your Blackberry or your iPhone or your remote email account?

Did you take a call that related to work? Did you get online to check something work-related? Then you’re not really on leave.

Instead of enjoying their holidays, I have seen a lot of friends end up bringing their office and work together on their trips. They worry about whether their destinations have Internet connectivity, power sources, and whether the time zone differences will affect their ability to be contactable. Read more »

They should update other things in the game too. Instead of a get out of jail free card, they should have a Dodgy Lawyer card that not only gets you out of jail straight away but also gives you a fat payout in compensation for daring to arrest you in the first place.
