Greenpeace

Writer and activist Susan Sontag said: “I envy paranoids. They actually feel people are paying attention to them”.

Trust no one

People were quick to call mining giant Clive Palmer a ‘crackpot’ and a ‘nutjob’ for his bizarre claim that the Greens are a tool of the CIA being used to undermine mining. And they are wacky claims. But the human mind is an amazing thing and comes up with sophisticated ways to protect itself from the real world. He’s not simply ‘wacky’.

Conspiracy theories are a protective mechanism.

A few weeks ago Greenpeace turned its “greenmail” forces on national franchise chain Bakers Delight, telling customers they soon would be eating bread made from genetically modified wheat.

The key word there is THREAT. Greenpeace made it sound like the threat had already materialised in its social media campaign. Pic: greenpeace.org.au

There was no justification for the claim, and no thorough examination of the merits or otherwise of GM crops.

Said Greenpeace on Facebook: This week we are suggesting that Bakers Delight change its well-publicised motto: “Bakers Delight bakers use real ingredients to bake unreal bread”. To the less snappy motto: “Bakers Delight bakers use risky genetically modified ingredients to bake unreal bread”.

Malcolm Farr might hate environmentalists because they interfere with the profit making of corporate parasites, mostly foreign owned, but most Australians actually want to know what they’re eating. And as such Greenpeace is again acting in the public interest were corporatist media and plutocratic government have failed. These corporations do… Read more »

Over the last few weeks a disturbing trend has come to pass. Those sitting on both the left and right sides of political debates have sought to express their views by attacking and undermining the work of scientists.

Hey Sally, I just found that nipple piercing you lost! Pic: Greenpeace.

On the right, Christopher Monckton continues to misquote, misrepresent and misuse science in his anti climate science parade across Australia. And climate scientists have had to endure death threats for getting on with the job and furnishing the public with much needed information.

On the left, Greenpeace thought it appropriate to destroy a crop of genetically modified wheat which dared be part of a scientific trial being conducted by the CSIRO, Australia’s premier research organisation.

We elect leaders to lead. We have a representative democracy. Referendums are to change the constitution - so you can’t have a referendum on the carbon tax even if you wanted to. We elected a green / labour coalition government so we get green / labour coalition policies Read more »
