Ethnicity

Darryl Kerrigan may have famously asked “what is it with wogs and cash?” He could’ve just as easily asked “what is it with wogs and property?”

Your background is more important to real estate success than the old adage about position

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria has completed research that proves what many ethnic types have known for years; that us wogs do better in the property game than your typical Aussie. If ‘The Castle’ was real and not just the greatest Australian film ever made, Farouk would by now own half the street and his kids would be well on their way to building their own property portfolios.

REIV analysis of Census data shows that many migrants to this country have better home ownership rates than those who were born and bred here. Indeed Australians don’t even break into the top 30 in home ownership rates in their own country!

Pretty bad.  Most of the Gen X and Gen Y are sooky la la’s who stay home until they are 35yo. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/06/04/it-can-happen-here-europe-s-screwed-generation-and-america-s.html Pffft.  I came here when I was 22, NO handouts, bought my house, paid for my own wedding, did it all myself.  Easy.  Harden up Princesses. Actually no PJ, it is not, it actually shows more what selfish baby-boomers are like as opposed to ethnics.  Both were young at the same time, but the wogs (and I grew up with them) appreciated the chances they had, the cheap interest rates, the ability to have a mortgage… Read more »

Last week was a historic moment for multicultural Australians, a day for which we have waited and fought for five years. When migrants were targeted in the last elections and when some Australian voices joined the chorus of multicultural indictment in Europe, we despaired and thought the day would never arrive.

Cartoon by The Australian's Bill Leak

Last week in Sydney, Minister Chris Bowen announced that Australia has a new Multicultural Policy.

Australia’s last national multicultural policy expired in 2006.  The lack of a national government affirmation of Australia’s multicultural reality has allowed divisive and racist voices to gain legitimacy. The statements of European leaders, which in actual fact spoke more about the failure of their own vision, seemed to fuel abhorrent sentiments in our country.

Andrew McLeod, addressing the United Nations last week, argued that the AFL must address racism in football, citing their laws that prevent insults and threats on the basis of a person’s race.

His address, on Australia Day, coincided with hundreds of speeches around the country assuring those taking up Australian citizenship that the nation’s racial vilification laws prevented discrimination against them on the basis of their race.

Race is also emerging as a hot topic in the controversy about a referendum on indigenous recognition in the constitution. Options for change are already citing “people of any race,” “racial groups” and “all racial backgrounds” and the race power contained in section 51 (xxvi) (1).
