The next time you choose to rip out the “simple home renovation ideas for a weekend” tearaway from your Sunday newspaper or watch a cosy Dulux ad and muse to yourself how “easy” it looks, be warned: DIY is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Not that I’m bitter or anything. But after spending the better part of this Easter long weekend, wielding a paint roller around several walls and ceilings I’m calling “crap” on shows like Better Homes and Gardens and Domestic Blitz. Those shiny happy people have a lot to answer for.

    My brothers dog ate an entire tube of Selleys No More Gaps. He then ate a paint scraper (handle only) and an entire roll of masking tape (the expensive roll). Wish I video recorded that feast. TIP: never let your Golden Retriever into your workshop. Read more »
