        <description>Tom Cowie is currently completing his final semester of a journalism degree at La Trobe University. During his studies he has spent time as the editor of online student publication upstart and been published at Online Opinion and the National Times. 

He has also travelled to Kuwait, where, as a part of a student delegation, he gained some insight into reporting in the Middle East. Most recently he has spent time as an intern at Crikey, where, apart from collecting the coffee, he covered a range of events, including the South Australian election and the Hey Dad! controversy.</description>

            <description>Perhaps one of the reasons that Gen Y has a distinct sense of entitlement is because we grew up with John Howard as our Prime Minister. 



After spending a decade under conservative rule, we had heard stories of Whitlam, Hawke and Keating and wanted our taste of social reform too. 

When Howard&#8217;s long innings finally came to a close in 2007, it felt like Gen Y had politically come of age.</description>
