            <title>Ending poverty does come at a price: 70 cents</title>
            <link>http://www.thepunch.com.au/articles/ending-poverty-does-come-at-a-price-70-cents/</link>
<description>Australians&#8217; obsession with interest rates and house prices is not the only symptom of an &#8216;affluence anxiety&#8217; afflicting the nation. We have also cut ourselves off from the reality of life for every second child on the planet who lives in poverty and for the 80 per cent of people across the world who exist on less than $10 per day.

The statistics of global poverty are staggering but before you think you&#8217;ve heard this all before and switch back to worrying about your own backyard, it is important to know that progress has been made. Lives have been saved and people have been lifted out of poverty.

What we can&#8217;t afford and neither can the children still living in poverty is to drop the ball now. While you are digging around in your bag for $3.50 for a coffee, could you also spare 70 cents to prevent a mother in Africa dying from childbirth?</description>
