<title>Democracy is dead. Long live democracy!</title>
            <link>http://www.thepunch.com.au/articles/democracy-is-dead-long-live-democracy1/</link>
<description>Julia Gillard, Australia&#8217;s 27th Prime Minister, is apparently no Prime Minister at all. She is, as they say, &#8216;illegitimate&#8217;.

This belief has become almost as entrenched in the national discourse as the word &#8216;discourse&#8217; is entrenched in first year arts essays. To many, the circumstances surrounding Ms Gillard&#8217;s ascension to the nation&#8217;s highest office carried the complexity sufficient to completely erode its legality.

Throw in a few taxes and a handful of independents, and you have the green light for all manner of nutbags citizens to observe the &#8216;death of democracy&#8217; &#8211; a ritual replete with cardboard coffins cleverly decorated with the word &#8216;democracy&#8217;.</description>
