Diana Elliott wanted to be a journalist until two rounds of work experience in Year 10 killed the romance. She studied economics/commerce and worked for several years in a corporate environment before having an epiphany listening to ‘Once in a lifetime’ from Talking Heads (‘How did I get here’...etc etc). She studied professional writing and editing (didn’t finish that either) at night, got the romance back, left her job and set up a freelance writing and editing business, having not published a thing in her life. She now works full-time as a writer helping corporate and government clients turn ‘key messages’ into stories that resonate, while scribing loosely informed opinion pieces on the side as a freelancer.

There’s something about Kerry (O’Brien)

Tonight marks the swansong for Kerry O’Brien on the 7:30 Report. It’s a sad day for us all.

The 7.30 Report is quintessential viewing for anyone with a remote interest in current affairs.

It’s the last bastion of a genre that’s been bludgeoned to death and is long past its halcyon days of 60 Minutes (the Jana Wendt era) and A Current Affair (the Jana Wendt era).

5 reasons the Libs should push Turnbull’s profile

As the election campaigning drones on, my eyes are getting misty for Malcolm Turnbull. Remember him? The guy that led the Opposition, a mere eight months ago?

Labor has wheeled out Rudd (almost literally from his hospital bed) in the hope of turning around its woeful campaign. My question is, why doesn’t the Coalition do the same with its hitherto unacknowledged golden boy? Abbott may think he’s winning, but really all he’s doing is not losing. And that can quickly change if Rudd suddenly pushes the turbo boost for Labor.

Here are five reasons why Turnbull is the PM candidate we wish we had:
