To that end he has pursued careers in journalism, academia and politics. Andrew is completing a PhD examining how Australia has promoted ideas of non-proliferation, free trade and co-operation against people smuggling in the Asia-Pacific. Andrew has lectured on International Relations and published on the foreign policy of the Rudd government (The Rudd Government, ANU Press–forthcoming 2010). He received first class honours in 2007, and is a member of the Australian Labor Party.
