With a degree in Visual Communication, Abbie began her working life as a photographer but soon realised her interests lay more in working on the images in post, behind the computer. Spotting a gap in the market for quality, specialist retouchers, Abbie honed her skills and restarted her career as freelance retoucher at various places including Electric Art & ACP, which led to a full time position at Harper’s Bazaar as the Digital Image Specialist (aka: retoucher).

There she was able to work with the cream of Australian and international photographers including Stephen Ward, Jonathan Bookalill, Jason Capobianco, Theimo Sandler, Alan Gelati, Harri Peccinotti, Steve Heitt, Stephania Paparelli, Bruno Ripoche, Sophie Delaporte and Lee Jenkins relying on Abbie to fine-tune their images.

Abbie now has her own fashion-based specialised retouching studio, FauxPink, with clients ranging from Steven Chee and Richard Freeman to Jeans West, Westfield, Domayne, Ricki-Lee, Myer, and Nike. Her attention to detail and technical skills make her one of the most sought after retouchers in the country.

People have always wanted to look better than they really are, and there have always been products around to facilitate this desire, like corsets, make-up, botox. I myself spend a ridiculous amount of time and money having my hair made ultra-blonde, my eyebrows plucked and tinted, my nails buffed and polished.

In this digital era people are aware of Photoshop and retouching. In any given social situation when someone finds out I’m a professional in the dark art of retouching the first question is invariably: “Can you retouch my (insert profile pic, wedding photo, family portrait etc here).

When they discover my area of expertise is the fashion and celebrity world, the next question is: “Who is the hardest person to retouch?” (No, I’m not telling.)
