Steph Key

Steph Key MP is the state Labor member for the seat of Ashford.

Prior to becoming an MP, Steph worked as an advocate in the trade union movement where it became obvious to her that sex service workers needed to have the same rights and responsibilities as other paid workers.

She believes that SA should follow the path of NSW and New Zealand where the legislation provided a balance of harm minimisation and identified the genuine harms caused by prostitution. On the other hand, penalties for coercion or involving or demanding the sex services of an under 18 year old have been made be tougher.

As a feminist, socialist and “greenie” she is committed to community activism, workers rights and social justice. In the electorate she is working with local groups and artists to develop various art, local history and “green” projects in the electorate.

Steph is a founding member of the notorious “Suffrajets” basketball team, the Trade Union Choir SA, Emily’s List and more recently Muriel Matters Society Inc. She is a Trustee of the Graham F. Smith Peace Trust and Board Member of the Community Arts Network (SA).
