John Alexander

John Alexander was elected as the Federal Member for Bennelong at the 2010 federal election.

John is recognised as one of Australia’s tennis greats. It’s that passion for the game he loves which has driven him to a successful business career developing sporting facilities and as a tennis commentator.

John has a longstanding connection to the Bennelong area. For many years, John ran a tennis coaching school at Tennis World in North Ryde. As one of the commentators for Channel Seven’s tennis coverage, he has long worked from the broadcaster’s studios at Epping.

One of John’s proudest achievements has been the development of the Ryde Aquatic Centre. The company he co-founded invested more than $20 million in the project, delivering a world-class facility that hosted the water polo competition at the 2000 Olympic Games. Used by elite athletes and the local community, the facility now attracts more than one million visitors each year.

For his service to the game of tennis, John was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. He was a member of the Davis Cup team 13 times over 15 years and Federation Cup Captain and Coach. He was ranked second in the world in doubles and eighth in singles.

John has three teenage children, Emily, Georgia and Charlie.
