Benjamin Jones
Dr Benjamin Thomas Jones is a Visiting Fellow at the Research School of Humanities and the Arts at the Australian National University. He has taught history at the Australian National University and the University of Sydney. He has also worked as a historian at the Museum of Australian Democracy. Benjamin has a broad range of research interests including Australian and Canadian colonial histories, radicalism in the nineteenth century, republicanism, Australian nationalism, concepts of Britishness and political philosophy. One specific area of expertise is the evolution of democratic ideas in the British world.
Benjamin has been published in peer reviewed history journals and has spoken at several academic conferences. His doctoral thesis, Commonwealth of Republics, has been nominated by the Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand for the international Best Doctoral Thesis in Canadian Studies award. Benjamin writes regularly for several online historical and political journals including his own website, Thematic Musings (Benjaminthomasjones.com). Benjamin is currently working on a new book on Australian republicanism to be released in June 2013.
