Kyle Sandilands is copping it from all angles and the moment, having just been dumped from Australian Idol over the terrible stunt he and Jackie O pulled last week with the 14-year-old victim of sexual assault.

Yes, his co-host Jackie O has also been put “into recess” by 2Day FM, but it bothers me she seems to be missing out on a large portion of the heat.
The only difference between O and Sandilands during the sketch that went so wrong last Wednesday, was he made that idiotic remark about it being the victim’s “only experience”.
In the minutes leading up to the on-air disaster O was there, joking about how scared the girl was to be strapped to a lie detector machine on national radio.
Marcus Casey has a piece in today’s Daily Telegraph that in part examines the work day in the Kyle and Jackie O team.
Casey quotes a former Austereo executive as saying: “He turns up just before they go on air and leaves straight after. It’s Jackie O who stays behind for the planning meetings while he goes off.”
The former staffer also says: “Jackie O is as bad as Kyle when it comes to performing tasteless and demeaning stunts - anything for ratings.”
Media Watch last night played extended excerpts from a different skit in which the co-hosts tormented a young refugee woman, who was desperate to meet the American-based niece she had never laid eyes on.
I had to listen to it with my hands over my eyes, for some reason that seemed to make it less awful.
Why Jackie O is described as Sandilands’ sidekick is beyond me. She was just as vocal and maniacal during this skit that ended with the two young women literally on their knees begging to be allowed to actually talk to each other in person.
Maybe it’s because Jackie O is so cute that people have let her off the hook.
There’s been plenty of sympathetic profiles in the womens’ mags documenting her battles with body image.
But this is a woman who gets paid a huge amount of money to play the straight man in Sandilands’ misogynist shtick. He calls her fat, she cries, she picks up her massive cheque.
Whether the tears are real is irrelevant. Jackie O is not just along for the ride, she’s co-piloting the sinking ship, and she should be made to explain herself.
