We’re getting William, whether we like it or not
The secret is out – our next king; unless we come to our senses and become a Republic – will be William, not Charles!
That’s what one of the UK’s most respected newspapers has reported and it’s not journalistic hyperbole; it’s from a secret document which reveals that the Queen will hand over a substantial part of hers and Prince Philip’s duties to their grandson, by-passing Prince Charles.
But that’s not all. The hapless British taxpayer will be asked to give William more money, and Harry as well, inpsite of the enormous income their father receives annually from the Duchy of Cornwall’s bottomless pit of money.
The secret report really indicates that William will be the shadow king with more and more duties being included in his program of duties.
One section of the reports says: that from next year it is expected that HRH Prince William will spend a significant part of his time of official engagements.
It goes on: we need to put the necessary provisions in place in anticipation of that. That’s public service shorthand for “give the boy more money”.
The report was prepared by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Treasurer) when outlining new financial arrangements for Charles, William and Harry.
And what is really disturbing is that it seems the Queen is preparing for a generation to be skipped after she dies, which doesn’t really matter, but its shows the contempt the royals and the British government hold for Canberra and other Commonwealth capitals.
If, as it seems likely, William will replace Charles in the Line of Succession, has the Australian government been consulted?
The short answer would have to be a resounding “no”. Tell them nothing.
The majority of Australians seem to be indifferent to the royals – which is underscored by the lack of interest in their activities when on the now rare occasions they come here – but that shouldn’t mean that while we remain shackled to them we should be left in the dark about their constitutional intentions.
As the inevitability of an Australian Republic draws closer surely we should cut the apron strings as soon as possible and leave the English to play out their own charade – there is no place in Australia for foreigners “guarding” our Constitution or having anything to do with it.
