Usually, when it comes to watching your favourite sport or movie on television, ads are the last thing you pay attention to.

These inconvenient and short bursts of time are more likely used for important, yet harried, tasks of making tea, dashing to the bathroom or checking phone messages.

Not so when it comes to the Superbowl,  a game played yesterday in the United States where a collection of very clever ads became the exception to this rule.

And while there’s a few “best of” lists floating around the internet today, here’s three The Punch team have voted worth watching.

How about some Journos out here get serious about the debate on Climate Change and the way the Government and Opposition propose to tackle it and give us all the Information we need to make an informed decision.

I don’t really understand all the issues and I bet most people don’t.

Bill, better like having cracks in the bottom left hand corner of the screen out of the box and intermittent lines and flashes on their (hugely expensive) 27 inch screens?  Sorry, looking at this on my 2 year old 27 inch Samsung monitor, no cracks, no flashing lines, just…well better than the Apple one really…

...and the black, matte finish screen means I can’t see my face reflected in it all the time too.

...Go Eagles next year, Philly needs a bowl!

...and Samsung have never produced a single item that didn’t need to be returned for failing to arrive in operative mint condition.  How’s your ipod going?

      Jason,

You forgot to add, that Apple create ‘better’ products than the other companies.

For all those who keep spriuking how GayFL is better than Thugby, or Wogball is the real world game just have a look at the mind numbing time robber that’s good ole American Gridiron. No wonder the sponsors pay soooooo much for advertising as anyone with a brain would be waking up to watch the ads as they’re the only entertainment available on the night and I believe it was the most viewed TV show in the USA since the MASH farewell nearly 30 years ago.
The Who at half time was a welcome break of course.
P.S so someone called Payton Manning at Indianapolis is claimed to be the greatest quarterback ever?
YAWN!!!!!!!!!! He was the reason the saints are celebrating now I suspect?
Every year I try to understand this noble sport but alas I still can’t figure out what the Yanks see in it!

Who watches the quarterback? Watch the line - it’s the closest they get to rugby league. Except they’re twice the size.

Sorry Dave, your fanboy title has been transferred to Charles, who really knows how to give an ‘Apple-job’...

      Fanboy.

Wow, you must be and apple side-kick i mean psychic…

That ad was done in the early eighties - and it was groundbreaking for its time.

You’re wrong Jason. Apple is a company which produces unique and superior operating system software which its competitors then copy. They use “off the shelf” internal hardware due to pricing benefits - but there’s nothing “off the shelf” in the superior industrial design of their outer casings (which its competitors then copy). The unoriginal “marketing” company you refer to (with implications of plagarism) is known as Microsoft.

    • Jason says:

Apple are just a marketing company who use off the shelf parts to create products which already exist in other forms anyway - so I’d expect their ads to be better than this…

Love it. Nothing wrong with the ‘main course’ either.

Really? I thought this year’s batch was terrible compared to previous years. Sure, the Google ad was ok, but personally I thought the Dodge ad and the Snickers Betty White spot were two of the standouts. The rest lacked something that should have been a mandatory, especially at a time when production budgets would have been slashed - an intriguing proposition executed creatively.
