Is this a pattern? Here are a series of similiar photos of Tony Abbott and Vladimir Putin. They like going bare-chested…

Bare necessities

... they both enjoy the outdoors ...

On the go

... they operate recreational power vehicles ...

Vehicles of choice

... they are good at hand-to-hand combat ...

Putin is a judo master, Abbott a boxer

... they have both been snapped in high-temperature workplaces to show they are in touch with workers ...

Putin in a foundry, Abbott in a bakery, each with photogenic staff

... they both show their soft side by posing with little dogs ...

Politics can be a woof business

... and they like to get out for a quick run.

That's Putin with the skis

      The difference is:

One wears his watch on the right wrist, while the other wears his watch on the left.

      There is no difference.
Both are extremists masquerading as the norm. Hence, the photo opportunities to soften perceptions.

At least Tony has something to show!
Imagine old Rudd showing his bare chest.
      Talk about vomit.
Only cradle snatchers (was going to say paeodophiles but that’s a bit rough) and his lefty Labor mates would be interested in looking at him…........
      Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
And perhaps old ferret face Gillard of course.
Could not imagine two worst people to have take their tops off.
The very thought makes me want to vomit!

Tony Abbott does what I would consider normal sporting activities like cycling or swimming.

Healthy activities like this are shown to be more likely to keep him out of our hospital system, clear his head, live longer, be more self-fulfilled, and maybe even give him an opportunity to participate in activities with his kids.

Kevin 07 has a reputation of working unreasonably long hours, expecting his staff to do as well, not mixing in the general community by not participating in such activities, and looks like he’s porking up too. As for seeing his kids, well the first thing Kevin 07 did was get a taxpayer funded babysitter for his 15 year old son, hardly a good sign that he would ever be there for him.

We have a massive problem with obesity, and its associated burden of fat people on our health care system and taxes to pay for them. We have a massive problem with mental health, with most Aussies stating they don’t have a good work/life balance.

Australia prides itself of success in sport and its beaches, well maybe except for the Inner City Leftie Latte clique. But even they seem to care about personal fitness and health, with cycling being a preferred form of transport when the Prius is being serviced.

The media and assorted fat b@stards label Abbott and those like him a “fitness freak”. It’s like the school boy bully sniggering at the smart kid.

Why is normal healthy activity an issue?

Why am I justifying this to you?

      Nice combination of shots.

But only one of them commanded death squads, assassins and spies. Tony never had a job at ASIO - or *did* he?

    • Glen says:

Better than photo’s with the Pope, standing outside church on Sundays and parading around the world having pics taken with world leaders at every opportunity. All these photos of Abbott are of who he was before becoming Liberal Leader. Not sure what the point is here? He looks fit, active and involved in many activities. What does dear little Kevin do? Any activities at all?

    • Damo says:

      02:35pm | 03/03/10

I believe running the country has limited his activities somewhat? I would suspect that reading might be one of those activities. But who wants a Prime minister who reads?

    • John says:

      03:01pm | 03/03/10

Yes, K Rudd is very busy appearing on TV and making himself look good. Too bad he hasn’t realised being Prime minister means you have to actually run the country.

    • Jason says:

      03:05pm | 03/03/10

I agree with damo - ruining the country would take a great deal of time and effort and he isn’t finished yet!

    • Matt says:

      03:18pm | 03/03/10

Damo you’re not serious are you?  Krudd has limited his activities because he’s running the country?  He’s only limited his activities OF running the country by galavanting all over the globe on a 3 year “fact finding” holiday at tax payers expense.

    • bear baiter says:

      03:37pm | 03/03/10

Rudd speaks Mandarin. That’s got to be some kind of death sport in itself..

    • J says:

      03:48pm | 03/03/10

Rudd is busy stacking on the wieght, we are the second fattest country in the world Kevin is doing a great job representing us, luckily he sent the fattest Labour politician kim Beazely to be USA ambassador - good thinking.

    • Tom says:

      04:19pm | 03/03/10

    • Doc says:

      04:32pm | 03/03/10

Damo - are you being serious? KRudd is overseas more than he is in the country.  Plus, instead of being active outdoors, KRudd prefers to make appearances indoors on television sets.

    • Cameron Elvin says:

      05:49pm | 03/03/10

Leave kevin alone, you all whinge about what a terrible job he does you probably cant do any better, silly liberal supportes

    • CSallen says:

      08:16am | 04/03/10

the Punch successfully banned the inappropriate use of capitals, can someone please do something about superfluous apostrophes?

    • Damo says:

      11:28am | 04/03/10

Thanks guys. You’re right; how could i be serious? Exercise as anger management is an excellent solution and perhaps one that Krudd should adopt to avoid hissy-fits over hair dryers.
On the other hand, we all know Barnaby Joyce should be leading the coalition to the next election. He runs a bank.
Ultimately, I feel like Krudd is doing something because he’s always speaking Mandarin and those Chinese seem like real go-getters.

    • Joe says:

      02:31pm | 03/03/10

It is a rather interesting comparison, but taking a look at the photos, i think there is only one way to decide who is more macho between Abbot and Putin, that being a fight to the death, perhaps involving some sort of steel cage.  Now that would make politics entertaining!

Although I think i would be placing my money on the former KGB/FSB agent and not the one time seminary student.

    • H of SA says:

      04:57pm | 04/03/10

Ha! I can see it now:

“I’m sorry Vladamir, but if we don’t fight to the death…they will kill us both” -(que that dun-dun-dah-dundundun music)

    • Public record says:

      02:31pm | 03/03/10

      The difference?
Abbott: ill-prepared, out of juice and bushed. Setting a bad example.
Putin: rides his horse alert but at ease - horse well “collected”. Impressive example.

The similarity? Pretty hilarious head-gear. That and the fact that both are troglodytes.

    • Ryan says:

      03:43pm | 03/03/10

I find it most offensive that you find the head gear of one of our most revered organisations (surf lifesaving) hilarious! What next, you going to make fun of what our fire fighters wear? Disgusting!

    • Diamantina Dick says:

I like the fact Abbott is fit and active. Irrespective of whether people love or loathe his policies, every Australian should admire this aspect of Abbott. To stay in such good shape while doing a very demanding job says much about his strength of character.

      03:32pm | 03/03/10

I’m guessing Richard has never heard Rudd speak…I don’t agree with what Abbott says but at least he has his own views - unlike Rudd who from day one has been putting his re-election first, and the country second.

    • Gran Depine says:

      03:04pm | 03/03/10

I can’t believe you received headline news for this comparison? We should be focusing on policies, false promises, incompetence,  scrutiny of bills currently in the House of Reps and Senate…not this. Since you like humour, the editor who approved the status of the above article reminds me of an old Russian Orthodox saying, “you can always tell a bird by its droppings”. Fly away little bird, fly away.

    • Mick says:

      03:37pm | 03/03/10

    • Lil says:

      05:23pm | 03/03/10

Agreed Gran Depine!! WTF is this pathetic crap doing plastered in the headlines - it seems totally pointless. The only thing funny about it is that someone would waste their time to compare these people and photos in the first place and that I have wasted my time looking at it and commenting on it.

    • Melissa says:

    • Stephen says:

      03:10pm | 03/03/10

I think it tells you they are fit for the job, especially Tony who is very much the fitter of the two.  Maybe they are actually meeting real people while doing this interesting actions rather than the staged setups controlled by the Rudd-less minders directing the out of controlled money spending Prime Minister to do anything to get a shot, even if it means placing the money where it will be miss spent like the insulation batts.  Maybe it would be a good thing for Kevin to actually get his hands and what ever else dirty.  Good on you Tony for having a go, this is Australia and having a go is what we want.

    • Gran Depine says:

      06:17pm | 03/03/10

Bravo Mike! I totally agree with you. It’s like someone commenting on whether Kevin Rud did any Research and Development with Climate Warming Junket at a Copenhagen StripClub? So immature. Why wasn’t there any affirmation that Russia and Australia have political leaders who believe in good health, exercise and preventative medicine. But our PM, Super PM Rudd can solve Australia’s health care with more taxes. The Pharmaceuticals and health care services stocks have just jumped with this announcement. Everything has suddenly become more expensive.  The Russians have a proverb “These are just flowers, the berries will come soon” meaning the worse is still to come.

      The other is Putin?

Instead of this dross, maybe you could show how the fawning media operates as an extension of the Labor party spin machine.

Constant chirpy smiling photos of Kevin 07, hard hat and shovel. Talking up his latest election promise or Number One Priority, never once questioning why every single promise has been broken or not delivered.

You’d think Rudd’s latest health proposal was the declaration of VE day given the media’s cheering.

    • Where's the earwax eating photo? says:

Isnt this a farce. Kevin Rud has been all talk and no action. Has anybody noticed he never actually answers a question, instead he answers the question with another question to get your mind off the original question?

He never answers anything directly so he never seems like he has said the wrong thing. I would like to point out Krudd, just like most prime ministers we have had makes promises and does not keep them.

Australia has never in its history had a prime minister that does things for Australia. We are always sub-servient of other countries. First it was the British, then it was the Americans, the Japs and now the Chinese. Show some back bone, tell Japan were to stick it when it comes to whaling. Their prime minister laughed when asked if he was worried about action from the Australians in regards to whaling. We need a leader with a back bone for once. Abbott for one has more of a back bone than that invertibrate krudd. But neither would earn my vote.

We need a man of action in charge. Not a man of promises and wishful thinking.

Tony Abbott might box a bit but is way out of Putins League about 9 mm out of his depth at least. All you manage to do is Make a subliminal comparison making Abbott look good in terms of his counterpart Kevin Rudd the studious, non athletic nerdy type, Abbott doesnt have the ability or the Hardness Putin has . and in the context of a famous Quote” Better an army of Deer led by a Lion than an army of lion led by a deer” ????

You have to be kidding me right?

All this article shows is that Abbot is the typical Australian, for over 100 years the typical Australian has been painted in the media and through popular entertainment as a sports/bush centred male. The noble bushman has been entrenched in Australian myth since before federation, and now the media wants to twist that image and compare it to the leader of a nation which the mere mention brings forth images of poverty, violence and communism?

Give me a break - this kind of tabloid media has no place in the Australian press. What ever happened to journalistic integrity. Hell, while you’re at it, why don’t we all compare Kevin Rudd to Mao… They both speak Chinese, they both have hair, and they have a pulse.

It is even more pathetic that you left-wing, union card-waving Labor voters have to rely on your traditional fallback position of name-calling to undermine the opposition leader.  That’s the best you lot can come up with, year in, year out.  Why not throw some muck at that incompetent idiot running the country.  Try backing up your claims of Abbott being a ‘Mad Monk’ with some facts.  Has there been some psychological evaluation done on him that categorises him as mad?  Does he wander around throwing cats and talking gibberish?  Has he threatened to… “When we get in we’ll just change everything”, like that fool Garrett.  Oh, he opposes free-for-all abortion, eh?  Big effin’ deal!  So do I, and most of the other mothers and fathers I know.  He is a Christian and goes to church regularly?  Big deal…  so do I and hundreds of thousands of others.  He has principles and beliefs, and stands by them?  A commendable personal trait.  He’s got that over the waste of space called Kevin Rudd.  You might as well call Kevin Rent-A-Polly, because the only thing forming opinions in his mind is what he thinks will get him re-elected, and he’ll rent your vote to get it.  He’s no better than a weather-vane mounted on top of a backyard dunny, changing direction with the wind, ignoring the stink that is a fundamental part of his makeup.

    • Glenn says:

      09:10pm | 03/03/10

The problem I have is, if you are a journalist how in the hell do you expect to be taken seriously if this is what you publish. whether or not you were deliberately trying to compare an Ex-KGB Major to the leader of the opposition as a joke or because of some bias it’s not funny. You don’t get to make jokes about the players if you want to report on the seriousness of their jobs, you don’t get to joke when we’re less than 12months from an election, the government has screwed up and 4 Australians are dead, you don’t get to joke when there are major issues facing our country which the majority of the population are oblivious to, you don’t get to joke when the opposition isn’t releasing policy to counter the government.

Here’s an idea, because I’m sick of defending the Journalists I know, pull your head out and report on the issues, report on the policy, lack of or not, report on the good the bad and the FACTS. I’m sick to death of defending my friends in the media who time after time FAIL to ask the hard questions of our leaders but happily put out meaningless drivel. The media is here to educate the population on what the leader of our nation are doing so when elections come round we can make educated decisions.

Want to put pretty pictures together and write fluff go work for “Who’ or ‘New Idea’.

those lifesavers wearing budgie smugglers are normally young and fit with great bodies, they can save me any day But I would prefer to wait till one of them arrives I can’t think of anything worse than the mad monk breathing down my neck and thumping my chest. Perhaps the pensioner groups might feel differently

Sorry luvie, not a member of a pensioner group just a hard working Aussie sick of my tax dollars being pissed up against the wall, obviously on immature dills like you, Mad Monk grow up, haven’t seen Mr Abbott giving church step press conferences.

    • Public Record says:

      04:46pm | 04/03/10

Pah. The PM goes to his local Church with his wife on Sundays.

And you want to complain about that, rather than an intrusive media pack that can’t even leave a Church gate alone?  Pah.

You wear speedos when you compete in surf and swim races. You go faster.

The sniggering derision by the lazy press at something entirely normal is amazing. Crikey we had 5,000 people pose nude on the opera house steps apparently for ‘art’.

People don’t care about this stuff. It is not news but rather an eazy filler for lame and lazy journalists.

      Abbot lost in the Wilderness.
Thats where Australia would be if he becomes Prime Minister.

      We are already lost.

Sugar coated Kevin may think he is a reincarnation of Moses but he took a wrong turn a long time ago. He saw a column of fire and thought it was an omen of global warming.

We desperately need a new guiding light and Labor doesn’t cut it.

Where is the big boy with big gun photos? Putin has one up on Abbott. And which one spooks us out the most? The ex KGB agent or the Mad Monk.

    • Elliot says:

Not to mention: one worked in an secretive, repressive organisation that dispensed punishment to those who erred against its strict and controlling dogma… the other was in the KGB

I think we need some revealing photos of our ALP couple.  Rudd and Gillard.

Two uglier representations of Australian men and women it would be impossible to find.

I would take Putin ten times over Rudd.  He’s tough, real, does things, and has convictions.

Honestly do any of you ALP rusted-ons really truly like Kevin Rudd?

Gee Willy you need to look across the room to the Liberal side Bronwyn Bishop and and Wilson Tuckey in my opinion take the ugly Pollie awards of the year and Bill Heffernan is sure no oil painting either. The mad monk would sure get The Golden Banana for the most ape like pollie

Dear god!  Why didn’t they warn me before I looked at that *shudder*.  At least they didn’t enter a mankini competition.

I think this article can be taken with a grain or two of salt. I think it’s just a bit of tongue in cheek.
