OFFICIAL: Rolling Stone will not be putting Kevin Rudd on the cover.

Sex, drugs and the ETS: Chris Deal's Kevin cover.

His interview will only run on the inside of the magazine, meaning the Ruddster will miss the same honour as the Rayban-clad Paul Keating in 1995 and Barack Obama in the US last year. “The way it was reported out of Canberra this morning you’d think he’s running on the front,” sources at the magazine told The Punch just now. “But there’s no way that will happen, for the simple reason that politicians don’t sell. The Keating edition tanked.”

The Rolling Stone story - broken by our own Leo Shanahan yesterday - was used by Tony Abbott on Punch TV this morning as evidence that Kevin Rudd won’t do “hard interviews” with serious political programs and newspapers. There might be something in that, but we thought this one was just a bit of fun.

Instead of being at the bottom right, “GARBAGE” should be on the top left. That’s what it is. Leftist garbage social marketing.

You gotta hand it to Rudd he knows how to work the media. I think the Libs and Nats have generally no idea. They are still trying to fight in the trenches where Rudd isnt even there.
I have been increasingly suprised and critical of pollies on such things as Rove, 5th Grader, Celebrity Chief, Rolling Stone etc etc. But politics isnt about policy its about PR and I have to hand it to them the way the the Government is rolling out the PR stuff they plan to be in Government for a long time and to henest I think they will be.  I have to hand it to Rudd if you have to make a policy or a choice make it grand sounding you know

      - Grocery watch
      - fuel watch
      -solar scheme
      - education reveloution
      -health reform
      - even the ‘sorry’ issue ( but give no compensation tot he victims)

They are all great ideas but all in all empty and shallow but they sound great..

      Dave, that cover!

I’m trying to eat breakfast, mate!

Is it just me but in this day and age of digital magic, if you want to fake up a Rolling Stone cover with Rudd, your photoshop skills need to be a little more ... errr ... subtle ... mmmm? Otherwise the joke falls very flat.

A well chosen magazine for a future appearance, Rolling Stone.

Crikey Rudd was on tonight, and he nailed Red Kezza.! RK was completely stunned and timed out of the interview hammered by cliche after cliche, by Rudds tiresome repetition, and frankly his masterly and constant annihilation of the Opposition. Loathe him, but one cannot but have a grudging admiration.

Cheers Steve. Am in perth so will watch tonight.

For the record it was a genuine question - I wasn’t trying to be facetious.

Sure ShaneO. ABC 7:30 Report tonight.

O’Brien and Rudd slugging it out, thrust and parry. Hard, unrelenting, full-on, and…civil. The little grey fellow came tooled up, and kept his cool. O’Brien had both barrels loaded too, and gave as good as he got. Fascinating.

I’d guess this was pretty even steven - both knew their stuff.  To my mind puts the “bias” bulldust well to flight. Thank Christ for the ABC.

Topic: boat arrivals. Conclusions: have a squizz and judge yourself.

PS Note for file, PM: try and keep get it briefer, son. I liked the straight out cut and thrust, but do try and keep it tight. It’s TV.

ShaneO: September 10 looks like the last time he was on The 7.30 Report, which was sans Kerry O’Brien that night.

Hey SM can you direct me to the last “hard interview’ Rudd did?

    • Ricky Y says:

      04:42pm | 22/10/09

I didn’t see The Monk, but can anyone tell me why Rudd will not appear on the 7.30 Report with Red Kerry, or Insiders, or anything “difficult”. I’ve seen him look really brittle under anything remotely “hard”, especially anything that can’t be deflected by a trite cliche. Turnbull turns up for a kicking time after time, as did JH, but the show pony?? Never.

      Tony, stop embarrassing yourself.

Fade those mocking the PM for (supposedly) appearing on the front cover of Rolling Stone

Que those ready to mock Rudd for failing to make the front cover of Rolling Stone.
