There’s plenty of action on the streets of Canberra today with the anti-CarbonTax protestors out in force. Will the same be said of today’s Question Time? Join us here from 2pm to find out.

With a massive 1000-1500 people at that rally today doesn’t that mean that there are more than 22.5 million Australians who were NOT there? Is that about 99.995% of the population?

hey rocket, bit hard for most people who aren’t jobless lefties to go to protests on wednesday in canberra when they are working in sydney

I bet there wasn’t a climate scientist amongst them. And why wasn’t Tony Abbott booed if he believes in climate change?
      Rent-a-crowds are so fickle.

I bet there wasn’t a single climate scientist amongst them.
And why didn’t they boo Phoney Tony when he said he believed in climate change?
      Rent-a-crowds are so fickle.

Let’s look at Get Up’s recent pro-tax rallies with that logic.

I believe the figure was 8000? (BTW that was a true rent-a-crowd Andy, learn to tell the difference)

So by *your* logic, what about the 22.5 million australians who didn’t attend that one? Does that mean the 99.995% of Australians are anti-tax?
Or do your meaningless statistics only have credence when supporting your position?

PS. There were more than 3000 people at the Canberra rally & simultaneous rallies in Brisbane Melbourne & Adelaide. As long as you’re going to use figures to come to silly conclusions, at least use the right ones.

Andy - the protest was about a carbon tax, you don’t need a climate scientist for that. You so easily fall victim to Julia’s spin. Not wanting a carbon tax doesn’t make them climate skeptics or deniers. That’s what Julia is trying to use as her “escape free” card from the broken promise and her carbon tax. She’s fooling no one. Except, well, maybe a few like you obviously.

1500 protestors (aka Deniers) isnt what I’d call a force. And anyone who believes a word Rabbit says (i.e. his Paid Parental leave backflip) is living in LaLa Land.

    • Mark9 says:

      01:59pm | 23/03/11

Oh so Julia, (Deniers) because they don’t want a carbon tax. Try thinking for yourself instead of parroting such ridiculous rubbish. I believe in AGW so I’m NOT a denier and also like a lot of other people don’t believe in a carbon tax. The issue is about a carbon tax, although Gillard is busy trying to distance herself from the carbon tax and only talk about climate change deniers just like your trying.

    • Bob says:

Rocket: I wasn’t there and I support what they were protesting about.

The size of the crowd does not matter on a Wednesday. Most are working as i assume were you Rocket.

Somewhere between 1500 to 3000 protestors (depending on who you believe) is pretty impressive for right-leaning rally.  And a bit rich to call hem deniers - a carbon tax skeptic isn’t necessarily a climate change skeptic (though there’s an obvious overlap)

It’s not rocket sceine - the people who will be paying this tax WORK

      @Lucius
Calling someone a ‘Denier’ could be considered Slander, hope you have deep pockets?

    • Penny says:

Gillards arrogance is sickening. Listening to her calling anyone who doesn’t agree with her plan for a carbon tax as a climate change denier shows her absolute arrogance and desperation. If your going to “bring it on” Gillard you’ll want to be careful your halo and arrogance don’t slip and get you first.

I believe in climate change but for the life of me cannot understand the reason for punishing companies ( big polluters ) that employ millions of people to pay for carbon emissions. Make the big polluters pay to compensate low income earners?????? Doesn’t that mean that some of us will have to pay twice???? If we worked for the big polluters, we help pay the tax, then have to pay again with the increase in the price of just about everything!

It is all becoming to much for me. Why can’t we just deal with carbon emissions to clean and help the enviroment without a carbon tax?

    • luke says:

      03:47pm | 23/03/11

The carbon tax believers seem eager to part with their money, even though there will be no benefit to climate change. In europe carbon emissions have increased even with a price on carbon. A carbon tax is a waste of time.

    • nihonin says:

      03:58pm | 23/03/11

luke, that’s because most of them will be the people who are being compensated, so the tax actually leaves them to spend and waste as much as they want, whereas those who pay and aren’t compensated will be living in the dark.

Julia if you are so confident that this is what Australian people want and need and it’s not just a cash grab then i say call an ELECTION and let us decide BRING IT ON!! At least we can go to an election knowing what your intentions are.
