The Opposition is now saying Peter Garrett’s canned insulation scheme is a bigger threat to Australian families than terrorism and Kevin Rudd’s now very upset. There will probably be a lot of shouting this Question Time. Join us here from 2pm as we cover it live.

The opposition are a disgrace with that comment. . . due to Abbott’s indiscipline, they have lost all momentum on this issue and Garret will definitely survive. . . Abbott is proving to be the Liberals Lataham!

@Halberstam, make sure that the party you are defending is beyond reproach.  Likle the typical ALP supporter thatr you are you ignore how toxic Julia Gillard and how idiotic Wayne Swan are during question time.

Just because these two clowns are under KRudd’s armpits the public doesn’t seem to take them to task with what garbage they fling at the Oppposition.

@Halberstram .. the opposition did not make that comment, they merely are trying to talk about the situation, without having some ALP idiot raise the terrorism question in the middle of all of it to try and get off topic.  Its so nauseating to watch these childish dodge politics in action…. Well, my answer is, oh wait!  look over there!

Oh Halberstram , clearly you are just a Labour stooge! Indoctrination much? Garret messed up, Garrett should go. Plain and simple. Get real.

How many roof spaces were insulated between 1996 and 2007? Has an audit been carried out to assess whether these installations were to standard? How many deaths and fires occurred because of faulty installation over this period. Who will be responsible for any death/fire/faulty installation in this period - the Howard government, the relevant State Government or the installer?

The Howard Government didn’t create a rush on contractors by showering money from on high. Try again.
4 people will still be dead when you’ve found out exactly how you’d like to excuse the minister’s incompetence.

Halberstram - they have lost momentum on the issue? Garrett looks like he no longer has any idea how to answer questions and just falls into a repeated babble, which he keeps reading from a script in his hand, regardless of what the question is (similar to what Rudd does) frustrating to watch.  and what is a Liberals Lataham?

Abbott couldn’t help himself and overstretched. He looks like he is dancing on these graves of the young men rather than defending them. It is almost a sense of glee that he uses them to make a political rather than address the true reasons for these deaths - a rebate can’t kill anybody. All he wants is Garrett’s head. I find it kind of macabre and more than a little distasteful.

I understand the Opposition argument. It is a fact that there are people out there in clear danger…right now. Their roof might be alive and the Government is trying to make the issue go away by scaring us with all those terrorist brown people who will face tougher checks to visit Australia…which on the face of it is clearly ludicrous…..9 years after 9/11 that the Government only now realizes that terrorism is a problem….and the checks ought to be tougher!
Well yeah sure it is but let’s not forget that my house’s ceiling is far more as it is a clear and present danger!!! And the Government gets me a hotline for that….
I cannot see how Garrett can stay on but I hope he does because it is a sure way for the Australian people relieve both Garrett and Rudd from their jobs come the election.

“terrorist brown people”. Oh Radical Chick you sound like a good old fashioned racist. As for 9 years after 9/11 I would remind you that The Coalition was in power for 7 of those. So when the current government announces an initiative it is spin but when the coalition
persues, vilifies, imprisons an innocent man such as Mohamed Haneef just before an election it is somehow just error. At least there doing more than giving me a fridge magnet and yes Radical Chick a “hotline”.

“Radical”? More “Reactionary Chick”, I think.

I would suggest whatever the problems with shonky insulation installation, they will be a little easier to address, than a determined suicide bomber.

Once again QT was a farce.

Not a single question from the Opposition was answered.

The Speaker repeatedly ignored requests to make Government MPs make their responses relevant.

The Speaker repeatedly warned Opposition MPs for heckling but ignored Labor MPs who did the same.

Labor used QT to issue another party political broadcast attacking the Liberals rather than answer questions and inform the House.

Labour MPs again resorted to playground politics and name calling - Joe Hockey was, in the one session, referred to as ‘a windbag’, ‘Tinkerbell’ and ‘Sloppy Joe’.

A disgrace and a complete waste of time.

What do you mean once again question time was a farce?
When has it not been a farce?
I don’t think i’ve ever seen a question time (no matter whose in charge) that didn’t suffer from the things you’ve mentioned.
      Same Same.

The real reason this attack has lost momentum is not because of any specific Liberal error but because of the modern attention span.  Seriously, who is still interested (apart from those directly affected)?  This is why Rudd so confidently stood by Garrett last week - he knew that it would only take a fortnight tops for the issue to peak and subside.  What the Liberals need to do now is effectively connect this scandal with a narrative of Labor incompetence, bureaucratic mismanagement, wasteful spending etc.  Unfortunately I don’t think they have the political ability to play the long game and really test Rudd in the lead-up to the election.
