The Afghanistan debate continued in the House of Representatives this morning, with Greens Adam Bandt and Independent Andrew Wilkie begging to differ from Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott’s line that it’s all going rather well. The Government also re-announced plans to split the retail and wholesale arms of Telstra to facilitate the operation of the NBN. Question Time should be a busy one. Join us here for live coverage from 2pm.

Julia just called Question time a strange one but it does not seem to be so much different to any other even with the new paradigm and Bronwyn the Bishop just tried to raise a point of order.
But Question time is the same ol with PM and Ministers ducking the questions and ranging on to all sorts of matters especially with the Dorothy Dixers being used to flog NBN rather than justify it.
Harry is not looking any more pleased than he ever has.
Now he is lecturing and even less displeased on devices being used.

Harry makes it unbearable. If he cut down on the lecturing and demanded answers I could respect him a bit more. He is supposed to be the speaker and they just speak right over him. Sad state of affairs.

He does seem to be a bit hopeless at times and I thought there were a couple of times when he had called on Julia to take her seat and she just kept going, once even with a bit of a guesture to him which I suppose was supposed to be something like, she’s right Harry I’m giving them a serve.
And then he uses his definition of tactics to be devices but yep if he was to enforce an answer being given rather than a rambling speech, things would be a lot better.
If you can ask a question well within a minute, more often than not in well less than half of one, you would think an answer could be forthcoming in not much more than a minute.
It certainly makes it about as meaningful as Insight with Jenny Brocky on SBS is sometimes when she cuts thoughts off in mid stream and bounces somewhere else.
So much for the new paradigm!

Tory I’m a bit miffed by these widespread Newspeak term of new paradigm? Minority governemnets are in most Western democracies and considered normal - why is it a touted overtly as such a big noted new thing?

Ted, It’s not ‘newspeak’! ‘New paradigm’ simply means the whole mindset, and ‘the rules’ have changed!  And I suggest that is really the case in our current parliament.  It’s been long overdue!

What, like, there appears to be an inkling of debate and diversity of opinion and democracy*?  Is this the “new parardigm”? Were we so conditioned to a dumbed down democracy that this so new? Still I don’t understand this new paradigm is the normal or old paradigm in some many other countries - whats the big deal?

Can you export this “new democracy” to the NSW “democracy”? Please?

you have to ask who Andrew Wilkie supports from what i picked up it was not the 88 who died in Bail

What a silly comment. So if he opposes the war, he must not support the 88 who died in Bali? Well, then I guess that a large number of Australians don’t support the 88 who died in Bali.

When we have a major terrorist attack on Australian soil, that should get the ball rooling.  ” Be alert but not alarmed “said the arm-chair warrior John Winston Howard.

Who really cares what Howard said? It was probably simply a bit more scaremongering for his own political gain!
