Question Time has got so out of hand (10-minute answers from the PM), there’s restless talk amongst some Opposition types of boycotting. They didn’t. See the mayhem after the jump.

In a time of enormous economic unrest, in a time where the government of the day has to LEAD this country through a technological revolution, in a time where our national health system administered by the states is the worst it’s been in our country’s history, in a time where the big Rudd “apology” has translated to very little in the way of cultural or social reform for our indigenous population, I am tired of politicians using parliament to push a political agenda based around points scoring over the other side, I’m tired of seeing exasperated Speakers of the House trying to control behaviour that would not be allowed in our country’s classrooms. When, oh when, will our nations “leaders” use parliament for what it was designed to do…and that is, discuss and debate the issues of the day and provide solutions to this great country.

Probably when more Australians actually watch Question time instead of seeing 6 second clips on the news, It seems to me that the majority have never watched it, if they had they would probably be as fed up and disgusted with the morons as you and I are.

When I have watched question time I can not believe these people represent us in the parliament. Its more like a kindergarten for pretend adults. Is this the best we have? I guess smart people would not go into politics, the smart ones go into big or corporate business. If the members of parliament were a business they would have been sacked years ago for lack of productivity, stupidity, lieing, and wasting time. Turnbull and Rudd are painfull to watch and are a “cringe” and an embarresment, not to mention the rest of the rabble. Politicians are only interested in themselves and playing one upmanship with each other and what benefits they can get out of it. We would have more respect for them if they actually achieved something positive, instead of the “fluffy BS” that comes out of their mouths.

I just love “question time. It always brings back long lost memories of the muppets.  The two women who sit behind the dispatch box (should know who they are but they never speak) always brighten my day. All they do is sit there with this cross eyed look on their faces and nod. What a joke is our question time! Haven’t heard Gillard answer one question for so long now. Must be damb frustrating for the Opposition. How did Swan get away with avoiding questions about his involvement in “utegate”. Guilty as hell and nothing will ever be done about it.  In my honest opinion I believe that we need to shake the system up a bit. It is not working anymore and is a waste of tax payer dollars. Party Politics can’t work as it is not a true representation of the wishes of the people. Roll on revolution! It’s coming.

I become so frustrated when the Opposition ask a question and the Government (especially Rudd) go off on a rant for 10 mins and don’t answer the question! Aren’t the opposition there to hold the Government of the day to account on behalf of the tax payer? Why doesn’t the speaker insist on the Government answering the questions? And the whole idea of ALP members asking there own party questions is rediculas! It’s just a chance for them to do a PR campaign for themselves with obviously pre arranged questions. What’s the point in that?

Helena, the speaker doesn’t insist on the question being answered because he is also a member of the Government. Similarly questions from Government backbenchers are worded in such a way as to allow the Government minister to run off on a tangent to bash the Opposition, while still being in order. Question time has been running like this for a long time under both sides of politics. The Libs used to not answer questions just as well as the current Government. If the current Opposition think the way question time is run is so bad, they should have changed the rules when they were in Government. But they didn’t and the current Government won’t either. And sure enough when they are next in Opposition they will complain and so on and so on. To the victor goes the spoils.
