The PM has had a busy weekend, flitting around between the Premiers, spruiking his health plan. But insulation is still in the air and the Opposition isn’t about to let it drop. Join us here from 2pm for live coverage of the House of Representatives Question Time.

I would love to see this multi (or 2 party) system scrapped. Time and time again we’ve seen parties putting their own interests ahead of the nation. Everyone should get involved in their local politics and start choosing independant MP’s as their represenatives. We need some big changes here. Whether you agree with Labour’s policies or not, we have Tony Abbott who’s self proclaimed job is to oppose and block everything regardless of what it is. Labour will be the same if in opposition as well. This does not serve our nations interests and must be stopped. Time for some BIG BIG changes…

      Hear hear Peter,
I thing that is what government should be about, but I’m not sure it can be done under the Westminster system.  Also would we get policy or just a lot of bickering between individuals?  It might take a lot longer to get bills through parliament.

      Peter,
I agree with you comment.  Yes we need more diversity in our parliament, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are doing this country more harm than good.

Parliament runs this country, as it should in all democracies. All parliamentarians vote on all issues.  The opposition is not there to oppose it’s there to balance and improve. To block for blockings sake is not what they are there for.

What scares me, is that a two party system is only one step away from dictatorship, and the gap between Labor and Liberal is closing fast.

How many people have read our constitution?  When was the last time a governor state of federal upheld our constitution?

How can they sell off water rights when it contravenes clause 100 of our constitution?.

But who cares, as long as the old plastic keeps working?

You are winning-me-over, John A Neve.

It should not come down to voting for the least-worst.

Talk about the home insulation scheme I also wonder whats happening with the scheme for “Home Energy” advisors. I believe there are some real problems out in the market ?

I think the US and the Brits are usually looked upon as paragons of virtue with regard politics. They both have effectively a two party system. More parties appear to create more chaos - just look at Italy - they change their parliamentary alliances & governments more often than I mow the lawn! Having the ‘Party Line’ so vigorously enforced is daft. EPRS good - let’s negotiate to EPRS bad - let’s block was only by virtue of one vote in the party room.. That’s simply insane! Remember the power that Fielding and the other madman wield in the Senate too - that was supposed to be people of note from the State making sure they weren’t done over by the parties weren’t they?

      Eno,

What are you on about, “paragons of virtue with regard to politics” !!!
Amerca would have to be one of the most corrupt systems going. Money really buys power in the good old US of A, what money won’t get you sex will.  Just look at Bush and the punch card fiaso or I did not have sex with that women.  As to Britain, sex get you more power than money.

You talk about chaos, don’t tell me we have not had chaos here?

As to the quality of our parliamentarians, who’s fault is that, they did not elect themselves.

Regarding Italy, don’t believe all you read, talk to an Italian and seek their views.
