Lady Di and Dodi - yes, just as sad as any of the other thousands of people who die eveyday in car wrecks.
AS for Tuesday , = 3 more days till the weekend, when Collingwood will be back to its usual winning ways, ( check the ladder, ye people of denial) and Benjis Wests Tigers will show why their 2nd grand final trophy is just weeks away.

@ T. Chong. Where were you that day? I had an office full of people in tears to deal with while dealing with my own saddeness on this.  I reckon that was mirrored across every other part of our society. As sad as all road deaths are, none had the impact of this one..

Re: Collingwood ( i would like a statician to confirm this to me if they can), but from living memory every Grand Final winner had a game that they won by over 100 pts during the season. As Collingwood never achieved it this year, im tipping they will not win the GF. The 100 point wins are an indicater of the type of killer instinct teams need to have to win the big one.

So from my reckoning, the only teams with a chance to win this year, are St Kilda, Geelong and the Almighty Hawthorn….

I never understood this one either. no seat belts, a drunk driver, speeding. Some ruch guy and his adulterous girlfriend.  The lucky thing to come from it is that they didn’t kill innocent bystanders - unlike so many others you see.

Tony Abbott ‘s on my mind.  What does it say about those who voted for him?  They must know what he’s like and still support him, and will they ever take responsibility for their actions? The election outcome is poetic justice, everything now depends on Abbott’s negotiating skills.  THE ELECTORATE HAS SPOKEN!

Abbott is an angry chap like Latham, just that Abbotts minders were able to muzzle him during the election. The real Tony was hidden, now hes on display.
Anyone only has to recall his disgracegul slur against the asbestos suffer Bernie Banton ( sic ) to see what type of guy Abbott is.
He also suffers from this curios affliction , where he seems to believe that we are beholden , or even interested in his past personal history - the incredibly embarrassing PR stunt , fully and deliberately played out before the cameras, for a long lost family who wasnt.
      Abbott= all show, and spin.

Tony Abbott’s on your mind? Gees when isn’t he acotrel? Im beginning to think you have some sort of strange obsession with the man, maybe those budgie smugglers really do something for you?
Anyway speaking of the Liberals, the Liberal Party was founded on this day august 31 1945 by Sir Robert Menzies.

isnt it “taking responsibility” to know what someone is like and to vote for them?

      Ban motorbikes.

4 Corners last night showed us Australia’s oozing crime underbelly and it’s not pretty.

We have attempts by legislators to ban violent bikies clubbing together but all this does is excite civil libertarian labor lawyers who harbour secret feelings of admiration for the rebels.

Governments need to think outside the square and the envelope too. To use that most unfortunate expression, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Motobikes are dangerous vehicles. Safety considerations wouldn’t allow them on the streets these days if they’d just been invented and gangsters like sitting on them = sound public policy reasons for banning them and the import of their parts!

Good plan, but it doesn’t go far enough. I’ve seen on TV how many criminals walk around. We need to ban legs!

I read somewhere that since 2001 we have lost 21 soldiers Killed in Action and people want us to pull out of Afghanistan. In that time we have lost over 15 000 people killed on the roads.

      I say we ban cars!

But gents, often the simple solution is staring us in the face. Except for farmers and cops, Society does not need motor bikes (or bikies). And “HOGS” are noisy bloody things in any event! We should be moving to phase motor bikes/bikies out.

Where do the Independents stand on motor bikes, that’s what I’d like to know!

    • Grelg says:

      11:59am | 31/08/10

I agree! Apart from athletes, society doesn’t need legs. We should phase them out ... starting with feet, then cutting off everyone at the knees, and finally ending at the hips.

Wow, We have so much to pick from - neither Gillard or Abbott, look or even behave like someone we could be proud of to run this country,The last person who looked the part was John Howard,In my view whoever finishes up being prime minister this time around will seem like a joke to the rest of the world.

It’s awfully pip-pip for the Pakistani Cricketers to find new and interesting ways of making money so they can donate to their brothers and sisters doing it tough in the flood-ravaged homeland.
(I never thought a rally-round-the-flag would ever be so much fun.)

Sorry to talk politics, but quite seriously, why hasn’t there been a major push for a grand coalition between the Libs and the Labs?  At the very least, there should be one or two high profile political journos pushing the point.

Surely the ALP could, on the whole, work more easily with the Libs than with the greens.  It takes the independents out of the equation.  It wouldn’t be threatened by a by-election.  The only con is that either Abbot or Gillard would have to show enough maturity to let the other be P.M, which is unlikely.

Surely it has to be taken as a serious option???  Shirley?

    • S.L says:

      03:18pm | 31/08/10

Interesting point DPF. Funny though the conservative cheerleaders (messers Bolt, Ackerman, Jones etc) are crowing how Mr Abbott got more votes so he should get the gong. But his 73 seats are made up of the combined number of Liberal and National seats. How many true blue National voters give a hoot about Mr Abbott and the Liberal party? How many seats did the Liberal Party win on it’s own? Alan Jones nearly had a stroke this morning over the thought of a Labor/Greens coalition. It was priceless radio!

    • Macca says:

I was thinking, that the party that has the most seats should get government, have their own ministers etc.

However, both parties should be able to introduce legislation, and attempt to get it passed. If the opposition gets a policy past the independents and a Green, bad luck, you have to deal with it and turn it into reality.

This way, both parties can attempt to reform Australia and rather than having an election on why the other party is less shit, they can actually discuss what they would have done if they were in power, because, well, they sort of were.

However, no, a Grand coalition prob won’t happen

I wanna know who the election bookies are going to pay as the winner of the 2010 election, I need the dough, I gotta a good thing in the cricket, and then I,m going to load up on the next election to be held within the next 6 months . I reckon I,ll get 9/4 Hockey and 33/1 a Collingwood and Garrett double, and then I,ll buy 50,000 David Jones shares, hold them for a week and the invest in every tinpot mining company ever registered
