The problem Shane, is that we get such biased articles from both sides its hard to see the trees through the bull***t.

As a non-sceptic Shane, aware that climate change is real and caused by greenhouse emissions, congratulations for taking a stand.  As global computer usage generates as much carbon dioxide as the aviation industry, it is heartening to see you trolling for climate change sceptics out of boredom.  Good to see you thinking globally, now why not act locally, shut down the screen and go plant a tree…....

Anyone else reckon David Nalbandian could be Tom Baker’s love child?

That Tom Baker interview is great.  As a child of the 70s I grew up watching Tom Baker as Doctor Who and he remains for me (as for many others I suspect) the quintessential Doctor.  His first two or three seasons were absolutely wonderful.

Agreed Arnold, Tom Baker was always THE Doctor for me…..though I really liked David Tennants Doctor and was sad to see him go.

I really enjoyed the piece by Kelvin Thomson.

Since it was posted so late in the afternoon though it has fallen down the page.

In fairness to Kelvin who has taken a bold stand, and becasue precedent has been set for this occurring in the past, I reckon the editors should bump it to the top of the page to give it prominence.

@MarK, I completely disagree with Kelvin’s position and am happy to concede that JG is correct in looking at increasing the Skilled Migrant intake.

I enjoyed Chongy’s response most of all.

      Where is he today BTW?

      macca
Did JG actually say we were increasing the skilled migration intake?
If you’ve seen it, please show me where.

    • MarK says:

      01:12pm | 20/01/11

Badger all you need do is ask that right wing nut job xenophobe Kelvin. You know the guy who wrote to his leader to say they shouldn’t encourage skilled migration.

Or are you suggesting that people in the Labor government have no idea what the government is doing? Sounds familiar actually. Gillard was happy to go along with a secret squirrel gang of four previously so it is certainly in character. Is this the case then where members of the government have to go to the press to get heard?

Do tell us what you think about this “right wing xenophobe” that worries TC so much. If you can also show us where Gillard has said she WILL NOT increase skilled migration that might go some way to helping you along. So show us. Or is Kelvin just lying.

      What is it?

You people amuse me.  Seriously.  Amuse me!

You decry the abuse of rights of someone, you demand justice, you demand wrongs be corrected, you demand things we done properly, government rule within appropriate boundaries, people be treated fairly and yet you abuse and treat others with complete disdain and are just outright rude to others because you can cowardly hide behind you computers, a faceless and gutless anonymous soul.

    • marley says:

Theo, I hope you don’t live in South Australia, not because I dislike what you say or feel I would dislike you personally. The current “All Talk & NO Action” Government of SA is about to undergo some big changes. The accident-prone State Treasurer & Deputy Premier, Kevin Foley, is about to give up both positions. We are going to get a new Deputy Premier & Treasurer. If the ALP go ahead & appoint the current State Attorney-General, John Rau, as Deputy Premier then the people of SA are in for a very rough ride. A ride which will eventually extend across Australia. A ride which, if Rau’s proposals of the 8th of December 2010 get up, will end up denying us all any form of Justice whatsoever.
On the 8th of December 2010, Mr Rau proposed legislation which he said would: 1) Deny people the long-held Right to the Presumption of Innocence & 2) Deny people the Right to a Fair Trial. The only way a person can anyhing resembling a Fair Trial is if that trial is held in Open Court, with all the evidence against the alleged offender being made available to the accused & the Defence Team. Without that we have Secret Courts simply able to declare a person Guilty of any offence a government or police force dream up. If this despotic government wanted to stop it’s critics from speaking out they would simply dream up some offence which you would not have the right to know about, have no Right of Appeal. If it’s not the Gas Chambers they would send you to they would be able to lock you up indefinitely. Exageration? Check out the history books of just the 20th Century!
Under the Rau Plan, you would not be an Alleged Offender you would automatically be held to be Guilty before you faced any trial
He said this legislation was directed at those so-called Bikie Gangs. They, the gangs, have become an obsession with the SA Government & Police. Both claim the gangs are Criminal & therefore Illegal.
To date, we have only their words to back up their claims.
The problem with this sort of legislation is that it opens the door to ANY government, of whatever persuasion, to declare a person or organisation illegal. There would be nothing to stop some future government declaring any Opposition Party illegal & institute secret legal proceedings against it.

I agree with Marley about you hiding behind only part of your name but then isn’t she/he doing exactly the same?
Marley, if you expect people to use THEIR FULL NAMES & not some alias, then YOU must do so too!
I am not ashamed to express my opinion - opinions which many may regard as crazy. stupid, unintelligent & possibly a few may think are rational & intelligent. Ever since joing in to The Punch Conversation I have always, unlike you, Marley, used my Full Name!

    • marley says:

Robert McC - ahh, but I’ve never accused anyone of hiding behind a veil of anonymity, as Theo just did.  I’ve never blamed others for hiding behind a pseudonym while doing so myself.  I was just pointing out the rather hypocritical nature of Theo’s rant.

And sorry, but given some of the vitriol one sees on the net, I’m keeping my full name out of it.  I try (but don’t always succeed, I admit) to address issues, not personalities.  To me, the important thing is the argument, not the person who makes it.  Which is why I wouldn’t think less, or more, of your points of view if you used your full name or called yourself BobbyMac.  The worth of your viewpoint would still be the same.

Tom Baker was the best Doctor, followed by a underrated (short span) ol Sly Mccoy. I think Tennant was the best of the new bunch.  When the BBC lost the rights to produce the books, Virgin took over publishing and I think produced the best Doctor material there is. Oh and the blonde curly haired guy was ok slightly mad but ok.

I just LOVE Dr WHO! Of course the original was the best but his successors have been every bit as good. Do you think we will ever get a FEMALE Dr WHO?
Now that would pose a problem for the Darleks (Sorry if the spelling is wrong!)

After I cancelled the daily PUNCH newsletter on Monday, because of the personal attacks and vitrolic comments, and
Also the feeling that some contributors were using more than one name to support thier own comments.
On viewing this column today, I am glad I did cancel as it seens nothing has changed.

      Bingle,
perhaps if you tried a moderated religious site you might find what you are looking for.
I know it might be a tad boring what with everyone agreeing with each other and heaping scorn on the devil and such, but different strokes for different folks as they say.
PS We really missed your insightful comments. No really!

    • Robert D. Ingle (Bingle) says:

      09:13pm | 20/01/11

@The Badger, on moderate religious matters have a look at http://www.colliemail.com.au  From Buddhist to Anglican Priest, I agree with his history as a believer, actually have a look at all the news in this country newspaper and get a feel of what the west is all about. There is a photo of a burnt car and my name appears in the report. In the letters I have used an avatar for privacy reasons, but anoni-mouse is well known.
If one is brave or foolish they use thier real names or believe in what they have to say and will cop the flack if it is not personal or comments on the use of other social sites for communication, as you and others have done.

Years ago I used to enjoy watching engineering students watch this show on the refectory TV, and they’d fain eccentricity and chuckle in their flannelette shirts and hot-dogs, (this is as close as they ever got to Art, thinking that Dr. Who was to sex as they were to their hot-dog) and now, as the Captains of Industry, they are dictating to government on policy to do with culture, business - which actually, is the same thing - which is to say, we , the grateful, should respect those that which and are able, to give us so much.
This Doctor has much to answer for.
