Women women champion of women is our PM. Feminists world wide loved her call her male opponent a misogynist and sexists.  Macquarie Dictionary broaden the meaning of the word misogynist to mean sexists in accordance to how it was used by our PM. With world wide popularity and everything supposedly going for her while on a three day official tour of Indian PM Gillard stumbled and fell flat on her face. Was the tour of India as successful as what we have been told by the media? I hear the awarding of the honorary OAM to the Indian cricketer Tendulkar hasn’t gone down too well in India because they have heard that the majority of Australians didn’t agree with the choice that one of them deserved the medal. The Indians don’t like it because they feel the medal was not given from the hearts of all Australians to one of their hero’s.

Will Macquarie Dictionary now alter the pronunciation of hyperbole in accordance to how it was used by our PM?

Gillard is a legend and inspires women around the world who haven’t been born with a silver spoon and have had fight misogyny and Abbott’s stereotypes of women.
Of course you wouldn’t understand this, because you have always had everything handed to you, haven’t had to work a day in your life and live in a sheltered world.

Oh dear. Per mX both the award and the PM’s “blistering attack” on Tony got good press in India.

Separately can professional women ditch the heels and wear proper shoes so that they don’t you know keep tripping all the time.  We are no longer in an era where women have to demonstrate their social status as ladies of leisure by wearing instruments of torture on their feet.

Also Gillard looked pretty good in a tunic in Afghanistan.  These little tight “professional” skirts that hobble walking - why do we still persist with them?

      Gillard is a legend -Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Just how deluded are the feminists of today? Especially Australian ones who have equal rights legislated, were some of the first in the world to gain the right to vote, have solid anti-discrimination legislation in place, are favoured by tax schemes and incentives, can do no wrong in the eyes of the family court, can level accusations against ex-partners without having to prove them (see Restraining Orders and accusations of domestic violence and/or child abuse without substantiation), have legislated equal pay, they even have an Office and Minister for Women’s Affairs (there is no Office or Minister for Mens affairs). Yet even having achieved equality (and beyond equality in manyu areas) still perceive themselves to be downtrodden and hard done by because some politician who was raised in the 1960’s still has some quaint and old fashioned ideas.

Oh woe is me - I am woman, hear me whinge.

I’ve noted in the last few months the proportion of tradies on the M5 on my early morning commute has increased.

I has me wondering if there is a bit of a grass roots economic revival going on in Sydney at the moment.  Sydney was a bit left behind in the mining boom, but the M5 at the moment is starting to look a bit like it did in 1999.

    • Dash says:

      08:01am | 18/10/12

Don’t get me started on the bloody M2! Left early to go to the gym this morning, and spent 20mins travelling from Pennant Hills Rd to Epping! Nearly an hour and a half to get to the city and I left home before 6.30am!

    • Ben C says:

      11:53am | 18/10/12

      @ ibast

I can’t say that I’ve noticed the same during my commute - do you travel outbound or City-bound? I travel outbound, so I don’t know if that’s a factor.

    • ibast says:

      02:11pm | 18/10/12

City bound.  It’s early too.  Leaving home a 7 it’s not much different, but at 6 it’s seems like 70% of the vehicles on the roads are either trucks or utes.  And it’s stop start even then.

That’s up from say 50% at that time with the traffic mostly flowing.  Seems the increase in traffic has mostly been trades.

    • pa_kelvin says:

      03:13pm | 18/10/12

ibast….I’m a tradie and work a fair bit in Sydney. Tradies need to leave earlier than most others for the simple reason it takes so f ing long to travel anywhere in Sydney. When I travel to Sydney (from Brisbane) for work I start early and finish late to avoid the traffic. All the motorways down there are carparks…Dont even get me started on the Parramatta Goat-track…

If there is a politician in Canberra that needs some kind of sympathy it would have to be the Opposition Leader. Having a PM as his opponent, female one at that using every card from racism, sexism etc up to sympathy card and then uttering to her overseas audience that she hoped he remained opposition leader forever would be a great challenge on its own. If that is not enough to deal with the Opposition Leader has the former PM who was ousted by the recent PM speaking out against him in a lot of egotistical double talk because he is keen to get his old job back.

@Scotchfinger, so dude, have you discovered OM yet?

Immediately following the breakup of Sleep, guitarist Matt Pike formed the band High on Fire, and Sleep vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius decided to form their own band named OM, with Cisneros on bass and vocals and Hakius on drums. Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan and Byzantine chant done stoner style.

In December 2007 the band performed in Jerusalem, Israel. Their performance lasted for over five hours. A portion of that show was released on 12” vinyl by Southern Lord “OM - Live at Jerusalem.” Their 2007 album “Pilgrimage” was chosen as Mojo Magazine’s Underground Album of the Year.

May I suggest a starting point with the 2009 “God is Good” album, then their 2012 release “Advaitic”.

I have a copy of “Live at Jerusalem”. 2 songs, 21 minutes & 13 minutes each side of the vinyl.

Where High on Fire are more metal-stoner, OM lean towards the doom/ sludge end of the swamp.

      HIGHly recommended….

    • SimpleSimon says:

      11:30am | 18/10/12

@Dash - The SG hasn’t had much love. With the burn through I ended up saying “f*ck it” and just carrying on. If I had the time, tools, money and inclination, I would:
      - buy all new electronics
      - re-apply the clear coats to the neck to fix an issue on the edge of the fretboard
      - give it a fret job
      - give it a proper set up

I might do it later, but for now it’s just chilling out in a stand. In the meantime, I’m starting the neck for my first build from scratch - a tele.

Are you working on any new projects?

    • Dash says:

      02:08pm | 18/10/12

@SS - fret job is easy. It wont take you long!

Where are you posting the pics of the tele build? what’s the neck being made from?

Nah I’m on hold for a while. Too may things to do around the house. But I have plans for a Les Paul with p90s. Mahogany with a Blackwood top and gold hardware. And a full Mahogany Tele. But not until the new year.

    • SimpleSimon says:

      02:30pm | 18/10/12

@Dash - I haven’t taken any pics yet, but if/when I do I’ll let you know - it’s just in prep stage at the moment, and I’m worried I’ll start the photo process and then screw it up so badly that I give up, leaving photo evidence of my failure lol.

It’s a plain maple neck, rosewood fingerboard (pre-radiused and slotted from stewmac), with a Hot Rod truss rod. Haven’t decided on a body wood yet, but keep thinking about what you said re mahogany being a nice wood to work with and am thinking I might go that way!

    • Dash says:

      03:08pm | 18/10/12

@SS - Where did you get the maple?

I used 19mm tassie oack for the neck with a 6mm board. You’ll be right. Maybe set another blog up for us all to follow.

Hot rods are good. Maybe look at getting the Stewmac truss rod router bit as well.

    • SimpleSimon says:

      04:31pm | 18/10/12

@Dash - I got the plain maple neck blank from stewmac. I figured, for my first build, and considering I don’t have a table saw or thicknesser or jointer, it’s hard to go past $20 for a pre-cut neck blank and $20 for a pre radiused and slotted fretboard. I couldn’t do the work myself for that price, let alone set up the shop as well. I’ve become a real stewmac fanboy.

Romney promotes women and here down under our PM should be promoting “why women shouldn’t be wearing media size heels in the workplace?” Apart from sometimes wanting to use it over our male work mate’s head because he is a misogynist and sexist it can be dangerous and embarrassing when it causes one to fall flat on one’s face as our PM has done often. I think PM Gillard and her ‘handbag hit squad’ should either band the wearing of high heels in the workplace or find the reason why she has these ‘Cinderella Moments”

In my mind, John Howards attempt at bowling to some Indian kid wins hands, feet and a boom-se-daisy down. If you bowl like my sister, then don’t bloody bowl. We refused to let her bowl as it would take all day for her to get through an over, and nobody got a hit. Mr. Howard should have just fielded down at deep-deep fine-leg out of harm’s way, like my sister, and not embarrass all cricket-loving Australians on international TV.

I think that all the salacious outrage is covering up the real and more current story which is that his “foundation” (which, by the way, is considered by people who work for nike as a division of nike, although probably not anymore) lobbied US congress-people on his behalf to try and influence the investigation into him.

“Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner sent a letter in July asking the Office of National Drug Control Policy to look into whether USADA was misusing federal funds in their pursuit of Armstrong. And in the same month, Texas Sen. Kay Hutchison and Rep. @subotic:  well, it’s quite true many of us are insane (too many hockey pucks to the head, I believe).

“Persons day,” however, isn’t quite as silly as it sounds.  It isn’t some sort of politically correct mangling of the the English language:  it actually refers to a Supreme Court case back in the decidedly unPC 1920s, which ruled that the constitutional definition of “persons” qualified to hold office included - gasp - women (even though the relevant section of the Act kept referring to “he.”)

So, from that date, women have been, believe it or not, legally “persons” in Canada.  Now you might argue that it’s been all down hill since then, but still, it’s a date worth remembering…even for those who haven’t been hit in the head with too many pucks..

If there is a rhyme or reason to moderation here, it’s probably in relation to alcohol….

It’s nice to know that we have a Prime Minister who is prepared to ‘get down to earth’ rather than, as do some other leaders, ‘look to the heavens’ when seeking to find answers.                                Does Rosie, the font of all womanly wisdom, remember Howard, the bloke Australia absolutely refused to entertain any longer, falling arse over head on two occasions? Without, (we assume), high heeled shoes? And did she, and the rest of the moronic right “laugh out loud” at that? I didn’t. Someone, (anyone), had had an accident. Not really very funny, in my view.
I can see Rosie and the rest of the Abbotteers running to someone in a car wreck.
“Are you a woman? Do you vote Labor? Yes? Serve you bloody right!”
      Nice people.

Please dude take a chill pill. Your idol went arse over head. Deal with it. A lot of non political people thought it was pretty funny. Howard attempting to bowl a cricket ball was a side splitter as well. Me, I just thought it was a pretty good metaphor for her government.

I am an as you say an Abbotteer and would be hesitant to have a Gillard sympathizer attend to me if I laid there helplessly. Having witnessed the amount of hatred Gillard and her Labor party have bestowed upon this human being I would be very concerned and rely on luck for another passerby for help.

      Pull me a glass marley,

I did find the quote quite amusing.

“One kid said to me about six months ago that ‘We are the YOLO generation’. The whole notion behind it is ‘Why worry about the harms, we only get one life so we might as well live it to the max’.”

I thought that was the Pepsi generation I was a part of? Pepsi Max, anyone? of course before that there was the James Dean rebel without a cause and before that even you had Monsieur Bonaparte sticking his hand inside his Napoleonic waistcoat and conquering half of Europe. I realise I have missed a few generations, but they obviously didn’t discover or did not articulate the “You only live once” life affirmations to any real extent, well, not to the extent where pre-pubescent looking young adults feel like getting a similar phrase tattoo’d to the underside of their palm.

I am pretty sure I do not have a point, but I do not think that should stop us from having a drink.

      Another please.

I must apologise for a previous error- it is correct that the ambassador for the Vatican is a different person (while Vanstone is for Italy).

Having said that, I am still hard pressed to choose which I approve of less- a useless person representing us to a useful country, or a useless person representing us to a useless country.

This may have contributed to my mistake in assuming they were the same person.

Got my electricity bill this morning. I’m required by law to keep them in case of tax audit. What is normally on average $331 dollars is now, inexplicably $507 dollars this bill? During the time the bill covers, I was inter state for 6 weeks as well?

Unfortunately for me but fortunate for others I suspect, the Bill just has a couple of lump sums, nothing you could read anything into to understand the problem.

The NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPRT) indicated that the average price increases 2011/2012 of 18 per cent were due to a number of factors including:

Federal Labor’s Renewable Energy Target (RET) (34 per cent)
additional generation costs, (5.5 per cent )
additional network costs (poles and wires), (55 per cent)
retail increases in billing, marketing and metering, (5.5 per cent)

The average NSW price increases for 2012/2013 are expected to be 16.4 per cent. It is telling that this year’s retail increase also included a so called “secret” $39 dollar charge per customer to encourage competition, which seems a little like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The IPRT also noted that the former NSW Labor government’s Solar Bonus FIT scheme may, when costs are eventually passed on by the State government, increase prices by 5 per cent to 10 per cent.

The IPRT indicated concerns that the increase in network costs may also have been partially due to unnecessary network standards and construction costs. Which is a concern mirrored by the new Liberal state government.

The Federal government believes the average impact of pricing carbon to be $3.30 per week on the average weekly power bill.

Carbon taxes impact differently across the country, as each state generates its power from different carbon intensity sources. But it’s definitely the 300 pound gorilla in the room, because the carbon tax will be passed to you directly via your electricity bill. But it will also be as passed on via a multitude of small ‘on costs’ that will flow through the economy. From the price of milk to council rates.

*But the carbon tax is not the Federal governments only green incentive. Underpinning the direct tax on carbon is a complex scheme called the Renewable Energy Target (RET). See above!

Currently the Federal Labor’s Renewable Energy Target (RET) is 34 per cent, so when you add Carbon tax (plus it’s GST) you get a 45 percent increase in your electricity Bill due to Labor’s Green Taxes.

Why don’t you tell us what your usage was?

The bill most definitely does not include a 45% increase due to taxes. Do you come from the Babylon school of making stuff up?

I’d have thought that piracy would be a “serious criminal offence” that any sensible court would rule sufficient to deny them refugee status under the Convention.  But of course, we’re talking sensible courts….

    • PJ says:

      04:34pm | 18/10/12

To make the last paragraph more clear, the Federal Governments Green taxes (RET and Carbon Tax) account for 45 percent of the 18 percent increase in our Electricity bills is NSW.

Next year they will account for 47.5 percent of the 16.4 percent increase budgeted.

What is Interesting is South Australia, which brags the biggest investment in Renewable Energy. Yet despite this it complains of 18 percent price hikes and reports a 34 percent increase in people being cut off because they cannot pay their electricity bill.

One thing is clear, we cannot afford 18 percent price increases in utilities year on year, because It seems we already have ‘Energy Poverty’ in Australia.
