Welcome to Friday @ The Punch

Today in 1978 the Vatican elected a non-Italian leader for the first time in 455 years. Polish Cardinal Karol Wojtyla became Pope John Paul II. At only 58 years of age he was also one of the youngest popes in history.

I have always found it strange that one of the worlds oldest and largest religions, started by a man from the middle east and propagated there, is based in Italy! Even stranger is the fact that most of it’s leaders have been Italian!!
This raises the question: are all religions really man made?

I find it deeply ironic that our richest PM ever, Rudd should have the gall to blab how “Greed made the GFC”...

(hint for Labor supporters when rebutting, mention how rich Turnball is but ignore the fact it was Rudd who pontificated on about “greed”)

I would like to push for a national referendum to make the weekends last for 3 days instead of 2 - who is with me on this one????

Simmo - there is such a thing as the three-day weekend. It’s called a ‘flexiday’. The came in 20-30 years ago but bosses hated them so they offered workers money to give them up - and guess what - many did, which is why they are now rare. But you can still get them in another form. It’s called ‘part time work’. Unfortunately, there is a pay to match it.

@Joel B1 - You’re not nearly half as smart as you think you are.  Rudd may well be rich, but at least he’s trying to help those who are less well off than himself.

The libs have always been about making more money for themselves and their friends in big business, whatever the cost for the rest of us.

Rich people aren’t inherently evil, just the rich one’s that want to increase their wealth at the expense of the poor.  The people who were responsible for the GFC are mostly in the latter category.

@Simmo, I know quite a few places that are doing that, mostly overseas, though. What happens is they work 10 hours a day Mon-Thur and have Fri-Sat-Sun off. Would happily do it myself.

He’s a bit different than the chap they have now. The current fellow can speak 10 languages, writes a book a week and when he looks into space, suddenly a wall comes up.(He’s not a common man) John Paul was a man for everybody, because he loved people. He had an emotional mind.
