Total ewww factor! And your right Tors, good idea but hot damn it dragged on. Probably not the best idea to let the kicker out of the bag about a minute before the end either.

I think it was deliberate it is a very effective entertaining advertorial and I think the comment of innocence and not wanting it up on You-Tube at the end was planned, and I note it was backed with credits. Good cheap ad Sarah

This is what happens when Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott can’t get their sh** together. This is what happens when the Greens get more Air time. Argh!! I’ve been violated

It’s a funny ad, but it was pretty obvious what it was about from the first few sentences. It is a good ad though, and I am forever amazed by how young she is.

At least it did not cost $38m…

Come to think about it the government could haves saved that money and just got Sarah to do it. But then again, saving is not one of there strengths!

I am a little disappointed that there was no mention of whales….

Thanks Sarah, your suggestions have prompted me to investigate the issues you raised. Now that I am fully informed I shall vote Liberal.

I think it’s hilarious. But like one of “The Chaser” skits, it also makes me cringe with the total yuck factor.

You pikers, have you no sense of humour?  That is trypical of Sarah and her sense of humour.

She might be young but she is smarter than you boring tossers and I warrant she has been more use in her life than you have been.

I met her when she was organising to spend 4 days at the Woomera concentration camp in the heat and dust to highlight the way we treat people who had fled the Taliban.

Then she worked for amnesty while getting her law degree.

Young yes, but very, very smart and funny.

Imagine Barnaby Joyce - he doesn’t even have to try to be funny, he is an hilarious idiot whenever he opens his mouth

      Marilyn,

I’ve read your posts on various blogs for many years and know you are an active and passionate advocate for refugees. That is commendable and should be pursued, particularly in forums where the subject matter warrants it.

However, I am yet to read any comment from you not filled with scorn and venom, directed at the author of the piece, the bloggers who respond to it, and/or the Howard government. You consistently look for argument where none exists and do your cause no favours with such vitriol.

Don’t you know that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar? Or are you so filled with hate that it doesn’t matter?

Tory’s post – and for that matter, Sarah’s video too - was light-hearted, meant to get a laugh and provoke constructive debate on the issue at hand. And the responses were in that same vein. But you still spoil for a fight.

Lighten up a bit Marilyn. Instead of insulting the “pikers” and “boring tossers”, just state your case. You may find more sympathy for your argument.

Who knows? You may yourself be “very, very smart and funny” too.

One can only assume you’re up there with Sarah in the humour, useful and good samaritan stakes rather than being a tosser yourself!

Reading the above posts, it sounds very much like everyone took it in jest.

You appear to be the only one without the sense of humour.

Hunour is a precious gift too Marilyn….

Fleeing the Taliban, why would they be fleeing the Taliban, after all they are such a loving and kind hearted people we should leave Afganistan under there control, that being the case for what reason would afganistans want to flee.

Bitter much? How do you go through life so angry.

She’s young and full of herself. They should air this on national TV and watch the greens vote evaporate as people realise what tools they are dealing with.
ost Greesn voters have no idea what their policies are or they wouldn’t vote for them. They just think “Greens oh they are for the environment.” They are for many other things most of which would horrify the majority of Australians.

She is very hot. I notice Brown didn’t make the ad - he is hopeless in comparison. 1 star for content though.

I also notice they didn’t dare put any of their wacky, left wing ,send the country broke policies in the advert.

    • Andy says:

This video is like an allegory for the Greens party, idealistic, self consciously noble, slightly irreverent and hopelessly amateurish.

Actors shouldn’t get involved in politics and politicians shouldn’t try to act.

    • Charles Kelly says:

      01:35pm | 17/06/10

Typical of the Greens, it was well intentioned but so far distanced from reality it failed dismally when put into practice - emerging as an impractical, embarrassing, useless waste of money.

    • Evan Jones says:

That’s pretty funny.  I’d like to see more of our politicians displaying a sense of humor (or even demonstrating they have a pulse).

However we would need to get a clarification from Tony where statements made with humor fall on the “heat of discussion” to “carefully prepared scripted” scale.

What a great p*#! take on a serious issue. You could see Sarah must have done a thousand takes before this not to crack up!
Although I think Bob Brown is a complete tosser I think he would have got a good giggle out of it too.
      A very clever add.

    • David says:

      01:51pm | 18/06/10

Well as far as politicians deliberately employing humour to make a point this was probably the funniest thing I’ve seen.

One part of the point I’d disagree with although it would undermine the whole joke would be the message is important no matter how many times you have voted.

    • Ken says:

    • Sandstone Curtain says:

Clearly this youtube message is aimed at young first time voters. Judging its effectiveness with its target audience is really all that matters so I’m frustrated to read so many angry comments. As I watch my generation and my parents generation struggling on in the wrong direction I am hopeful that power will be handed to the next generation sooner rather than later. And, if the two major parties continue to pretend at reform on the environment and the economy then I reckon the Greens are the next generation’s only chance for a good future.

So, the gag may have been obvious and badly timed, kind of like a high school revue skit, but at least it felt honest and real.

    • Pollitically Peeved says:

      12:10pm | 20/06/10

Between Bob and virginity, I’ve missed what their policies might be.
But as for refugees, if the Greens have a policy on management of the situation are they going to look at deaths by attempts in leaky boats and whether something should be done to thwart that and the jumping of the queue on all those millions in refugee camps following UN practices.

    • Ellis says:

    • M says:

PMSL!!!! I had that thought myself. I’m still cringing about the photo moment now. The ad is amusing in any other context than the one it was delivered in. I’m not a fan of the sledging ads that you usually see, but this doesn’t really serve meaningful political purpose
