Kyle Sandilands is not expected to return to the airwaves for Austereo. That’s the assessment in Sydney radio circles where insiders say that his latest tasteless joke - where he suggested that comedian Magda Szubanski, whose father fought in the Polish resistance, could lose more weight if she were in a concentration camp - will see the network blackbanned by advertisers should he return.

Driven out: Sandiland's stupidity may silence him forever.

Sandilands has again demonstrated that he’s achieved world’s best practice in his chosen field of stupidity with his “apology” over the remarks - a classic case of “if people were offended by what I said then I’m sorry.”

His comments show how Sandilands is ill-equipped to recognise poor behaviour on his own part and put his hand up - regarding the outrage he causes as some external event that simply happens to him, where the preciousness of the community turns him into a martyr.

I wrote a few weeks ago that while Sandilands is no free speech martyr, calls for government-backed intervention or control over his conduct, through a body such as ACMA, are off the mark in an open society such as ours.

What’s happening now though is that market forces might take care of him instead. Channel Ten has already punted him from Idol. And Austereo will be terrified by two things - the probably blanket rejection by advertisers of any program containing him, and the fact that Kyle and Jackie O’s audience, while having a high tolerance for stupidity, might draw the line at Nazi gags about the attempted extermination of an entire race, particularly when the gags involve one of our most beloved and talented comedians.

It doesn’t say much about the ability of Austereo to keep him on a shorter leash, given its vaunted introduction of a seven-second delay, which nobody saw fit to implement yesterday.

I felt he was being hard done by with the 14 year old girl.  Now he’s just proven to those few who gave him that benefit of the doubt that he’s a total utter moron.  I hope he doesn’t get back on air now.  Not that I listen to the replay of his show on SAFM anyway, I did enjoy him on Idol but not anymore.  This is just a case of the pot calling the kettle fat and it’s very sad.

This latest stunt just shows that he hasn’t learned from his mistakes and hasn’t even tried to change his behaviour.
No more chances. I hope he is off the air forever.
Why would anyone be so stupid as to attack someone as popular as Magda Szubanski? She is more talented, more professional and after seeing her last night on the Spearman Experiment - I’m pretty sure she’s thinner than Kyle at the moment.
The man is disgusting and his lie-detector stunt got Australia unwanted publicity all across the world. I had friends in America and the UK angry at me for this guy being allowed back on radio. If people continue to listen to him then it says something very concerning about our intelligence level as a nation.

I am over even feeling outraged by what this man says, I think he does it deliberately anyway, he knows it will fire people up, give him some more publicity, cause his adoring fans to rally around him even more as he is bashed by the big nasty unfair media. Yawn.

Hmm, I wonder what’s for dinner.

    • Bulldust says:

Hmmm managed to remove one foot from his mouth only to insert the other. Never knew Kyle was that flexible. As Mel found out not long ago, it doesn’t pay to upset the Jewish faction (let alone anyone else that has emotional ties to the attrocities of WW2).

No doubt he will be back on air in a week. Austereo has shown a continuing lack of moral judgement in this, and ACMA is toothless.

      Dear Mister journalist Sir,
You are mistaken. Concentration camps were not exclusive to the jews and Nazis. There are/were camps in Vietnam, Balkans, Russia, India, China, Korea etc. I myself am really offended by the fact that the press is involved in this witchhunt. Having said that I don’t believe he meant to say “concentration camp” as in a place where people were killed hollocaust end of the world etc but rather “work camp” like our allies the chinese run today where, infact, any larger person, including me, would probably shed more kilos than on an artificial powder diet! However, I do agree that he might be slightly dumn.

Give Magda a chance to respond and make him issue an “ON AIR” apology, stop giving him private limos to run round in then he may control his mouth.

This report is ridiculous, leave Kyle alone. I’ve heard much much worse from comedians and other personalities, how could this be blown so much out of proportion? It’s laughable really. Doesn’t it also seem ridiculous that people wishes he would “gets off air”, simple, just don’t listen. Other people will.

Most of us do not like what Kyle says, but his offending speech should not be censored.

There is no fundamental ‘right not to be offended’ and nor should there.
There is a price to freedom of speech and that is you can, may and have the right to be offended.

Once again they (dont want to mention who they is out of fear of being labelled anti-semitic) get what they want. the nazis killed more russian orthodox than jews, kyle has bagged out russians before, plenty of times, but nothing happens, why, must be because the russians don’t have any lobby/ interest groups, i do feel for the jews.

    • Jackie says:

      02:29pm | 09/09/09

Kyle made some factual comments and due to the witch hunt they were blown out of all proportion.  Yes Magda would lose weight in a concentration camp - everyone would.  How this is demeaning is beyond me.  We all associate these camps with starvation - that is the only reason he said it - not because he knew Magda’s dad was Polish and associated with the holocaust.  People have become too sensitive and forgotten how to laugh which is ironic as Magda is allegedly a comedian when it suits her.

    • Matthew says:

      02:32pm | 09/09/09

I think he should be sacked completely, not just his latest comments, but for the fact that he creates a situation where his listeners believe these kind of comments are acceptable.  He has a very large group of younger listeners who, without realising it, attach themselves to people and follow their beliefs and habits.  By continuing to give him second chances and keeping him on the air, we’re saying to that audience, that what he says is acceptable and perfectly reasonable.
It’s not enough to just switch off because we don’t like him, many people will still listen to him and defend him.  What Jeremy Jones said is absolutely true.  Freedom of speech is one thing, being offensive and rude is quite another.

Some people don’t learn from their mistakes for various reasons, some just don’t want to learn and alas, there are some who are so stupid that no matter how much coaching they get, they just can’t learn.  Kyle and Jackie O are all of them.  It is sad that we have radio personalities of such poor quality.  And to make matters worse we have Australians who are Kyle and Jackie O’s supporters.  God help them.

    • Mel says:

May - what on earth makes you think Kyle was hard done by when he was suspended for questioning a minor about her sexual experience? Try doing this as a teacher, doctor or anybody else in the community for that matter….

I don’t listen to this ignoramus nor would I watch anything he is associated with; however, merely switching off doesn’t solve this problem. As a society we should be setting our standards much higher. We don’t want the next generation forming their opinions and attitudes on neanderthals like Kyle or his equally dumb side-kick Jackie O. We want these fools out of the media. Replace them with intelligent, witty people that might actually encourage tolerance, understanding and intelligence in our youth.

The failure to use the seven-second delay means that nobody in the 2Day studio yesterday morning was adult or sensible enough to understand the implications of what was said—or that nobody dared pulled the plug on “king” Kyle. Jackie O or whoever the panel operator was should have acted immediately and instinctively. As for those who say nothing is out of bounds in humour: he was trivialising the victims of gencoide and doing it in breakfast prime-time to an audience too young to remember the horrors of the Holocaust and many other historical acts of genocide.  As with the lie-detector stunt, 2Day has failed in its duty of care to its young and impressionable listernship.

    • Fred P says:

I’m sure Austereo will publicly furrow their brows in mock consternation, give Kyle a stern talking to and suspend him (on full pay) for another two weeks before returning him to the airwaves. Seriously, Penbo, are we being asked to believe Austereo has standards? If they did, Kyle would’ve been sacked long ago. The fact that he has no shame, no morals at all, and will say literally anything for the sake of controversy is the very reason he has his job. There are many, many morons out there who want to listen to these two clowns. I seriously doubt Kyle is getting the sack until that situation changes.

    • Robert says:

      02:43pm | 09/09/09

Kyle should be sacked for being utterly stupid.  The radio station should remember the saying “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”.  Austereo and advertisers relating product sales to anything Kyle does in the future should extrapolate that saying one more degree - along the lines of “Fool the Australian Public once more, and watch our wrath. ”

Now Kyle get off and stay off - take up the never fail diet system of “keep your bloody ignorant mouth closed” - for a start you’ll save 1000’s of us more grief ... anything else will be a bonus for you and your health.

Waste of time the sad excuse for a radio host/comedian/public personality. And no… there is no excuse for these kind of references - Hughsey and Hamish and Andy get by each day fine without making references to other people’s weight and dark periods in history. Kyle should bow out… well i was going to type gracefully but that is not really an option now is it?

    • SteveB! says:

Even the radio producer should know better.  With 7 seconds to decide whether to press the button and omit his comments, I would have thought that it was a no brainer.  Press the button!!

Its not a witch hunt.  Its not even a whimsical comment.  Making light of other peoples misery simply isn’t funny.

It is irrelevant what his words actually meant, or how it might have been misunderstood as other comments on here imply.  The facts are, that most people define these things within there own world view.  Jews would think Concentration Camp, where as someone Vietnamese would think of their equivalent.  Either way, still horrible memories, and not something to laugh at…. EVER!

I dont agree with another comment on here that “no joke is too offensive”.  This is exactly whats wrong with Kyle.  There are boundaries that are simply not necessary to cross.  War atrocities (in any country) that have left an impact on families and individuals for decades are no laughing matter.  It is too easy for humour to mask the reality.  We need to remember them in a serious manner so that it never happens again.

It is extremely poor taste, he should be held accountable for his words, and he needs to be educated as to the impact of them.

I assume that Kyle did not know that Magda Szubanski’s father fought in the Polish resistance so any offense there would be unintentional. Still, you’d expect some restraint from him after his earlier suspension, if he wants to go right back to being offensive off the bat then he shouldn’t be surprised by this outcome.

No doubt some journo then ringing around for comments. PC gone completely mad. Of course everyone will condemn it. No one would have enough fortitude toadmit to not being offended. In one ear and out the other without any comment.  Most Australians wouldn’t even know what a concentration camp was. As most of his listeners.  Let alone what ethnic / religious group could have been offended.  I would be a nut case if I took offence at every comment re Fat, old. boomers. female, white,.Australian, racist etc. Grow up people. Not funny, not clever, not controversial, just a moron behind a microphone. Sure you don’t have to listen, but that’s not the point. Agree with your point David, with the exception of ” that Kyle and Jackie O’s audience, while having a high tolerance for stupidity, might draw the line at Nazi gags about the attempted extermination of an entire race”. You need to remember that their audience is pretty much 15 year old girls who don’t get anything except lipgloss and boy bands and probably think that a concentration camp is a school trip for nerds.

That case was settled and long over and done with, but Laws unknowingly broke some obscure law no one had heard of (everyone knows you don’t comment on an ONGOING court case, but what’s wrong with commenting on one that is finished?), and he almost got thrown off air and jailed. “...and the fact that Kyle and Jackie O’s audience, while having a high tolerance for stupidity, might draw the line at Nazi gags about the attempted extermination of an entire race”.

Sadly not, as many online commentators seem to be declaring in other forums. If I may paraphrase, “Those concentration camps where, like, OMG, like decades ago - I found it funny, everyone needs to just harden the f up”. Or some such thing. “Just turn it off if you don’t like it” their mantra echos in between posts espousing a modicum of intellect and social morality, or decency. ” We simply couldn’t breathe without our bogan god, his thoughts are just, like, so profound and funny that we just can’t start the day or function without him”, and of course “OMG I just can’t believe they are doing this to him - leave him alone”.

Tough love I say. If no one can save the bogans from themselves then Australian society will be a place of wonder in but a few short years.

From left field however it appears the free-spirited ‘market’ will come out to save the day in place of the “uptight, nanny state, do-gooders”.

Kyle was dumb enough to supply the media with the target over his head, now he gives them the arrows??? If breathing was not an automatic bodily function I have to wonder whether he would have even the intellect to manage that.

Anyway, Kyle is going down not because of any Free Speech issues, he is going down because the advertising market (led by public standards) is the main factor here.

Advertisers appeal to the standards of their listeners.
At least today we see that the Australian listener still maintains a skerrick of decency.

Kyle’s Nazi-type quip was bad taste, but the rape interview recently was definitly over the top.

Dave’s right.  Taking his point further, some people seem to be confusing freedom of speech (ie the right to have an opinion, preferably based on some sort of reasoned foundation) with the the right to say whatever the hell you want regardless of who it offends.  I didn’t listen to Kyle’s show before and had no plans to listen to it in the future, but you can’t go around making comments like he did and expect nothing to come of it.  It showed a gross lack of judgement to say what he did.  The fact that her surname is clearly Polish may or may not have had anything to do with it, but that really doesn’t make much difference.

A joke is a joke however bad and it was in the context of a dumb-ar$e radio show.  I do not think it is essential listening for all down at the synagogue and no one would have known, but Australia is fixated with Mr Sandilands and you have now fed the monster some more.

We are becoming more and more like a nanny site. Everything has to be so PC in Australia these days and it’s pathetic. We used to be known as the ‘tough’ country but now I look at us and think how cowardly we really are. So he said another bad thing, so what? I get offended by people every day here and there and I don’t kick up a big stink, that’s just life and opinions. Australian needs to grow a pair otherwise we’ll just become the laughing stock of the Western World (we pretty much already are).

I get really tired of people using the “Freedom of Speech” flag.  Freedom of speech is here to give us people the right have our voices heard with out fear of harm from our government/army etc.  Journalists the right to expose corruption, Taxpayer to right to question government spending.  It does not mean the right to say what you want whenever you want without consequences.  Trying to be funny about a period of shameful human history is not free speech simply bad manners, and as Charles Sykes(50 rules kids won’t learn in school) say “manners are the oil that allows society to survive the frictions of having to be in the same room with people you can’t stand.

I’m amazed he is retained by Austereo - does he actually add value to the station?
He (and many like him) could raise the IQ of Australia by having a lobotomy.

Posters talking about free speech, censorship, rampant PC brigades etc, make good points, but Kyle Sandilands gives free speech a bad name. He’s not funny, he’s not insightful, he’s not innovative, he’s not clever…

He’s simply mediocre. And that’s the problem. Had there been an important issue behind his obscenity, he’d merit all the defence and championing we could provide despite his mediocrity. But defending his right to be an arsehole is a misplaced advocacy. There’s no civil rights concern here, the pimply adolescents who make up his audience are not an oppressed people and Kyle Sandilands is not their freedom fighter, he’s a carefully constructed commercial commodity.

That is the most offensive thing about this crap — this cheap tacky contaminated product is being peddled to our youth by big corporate outfits. It’s more an issue for consumer affairs than the UNHCR. It’s a long shot, but maybe 2DAY will find a replacement who’s just as “outrageous” (to attract the kiddies), but can introduce our kiddies to the concept of “cheekiness” coupled with wit and intelligence.

@Vanessa: Free speech includes the right to say something you might not like, the right to say something that you find offensive and the right to preach ridiculous ideals.

Free speech does not include the right to abuse others - I agree that his comments were offensive, and that he should have exercised discretion. BUT I think he has the right to say these things, just as advertisers have the right to pull their support and let him crash to the ground.

I have a great deal of trouble with the idea that saying something offensive (as opposed to abusive) should be prohibited. I do not think that I should be prohibited from saying something for fear that someone might be offended - nor should another person be prohibited from saying something for fear that I may be offended.

A person should be permitted to support the Communist Party if they so choose, they should be able to preach it’s virtues just as we can argue against it.

I would go so far as suggesting that we should not prohibit non-violent hate speech - people should have the right to express their dislike for something. That does not include to right to behave in the manner that they advocate. Speech should be free, prohibitions should be interested only in behaviour.

Kyle is not my ‘cup of tea’ but I think he is entertaining and funny on a very basic level. If you don’t like him then don’t listen and stop giving him ALL THIS PUBLICITY. For the record I think this is political correctness gone too far. The child rape ‘incident’ was abhorrent but I believe it was an accident and measures have been put in place to stop that reoccuring.  It is ok to make jokes about Nazis and the holocaust - comedians have been doing it for years. Ricky Gervais during his show ‘Politics’ jokes that he orginally thought that Schindlers List was a porn movie as he had read a review that ‘said that ‘you will need a box of tissues’, he then goes on to say that was rubbish and he only needed a few tissues, the audience groans with anticiapation of what he might say next and Ricky explains ‘well there is a shower scene’. Ricky Gervais is one of the most respected comedians in the worldm, a ‘genius’ and people are demanding Kyle’s head. I think Kyle is very popular and those people in the higher socio-economic brackets that are so deplored by his behaviour won’t be able to just make him go away.

    • John R. says:

I think Australians are intelligent enough to realise that words are powerful - they convey thoughts…Kyle is speaking from what’s inside of him, and it’s dark and he needs some time to reflect on what is socially and politically acceptable behaviour and he needs to radically change that if he to stay in community…

But for those who want the rest of our community to sit by, not listen, not tune in, or not pay attention to such remarks, would also probably be the one’s who would have sat by, with the nations that sat back, and did nothing, while Hitler was exterminating, murdering and pillaging Jews throughout Europe…

No amount of stuffing your head in the sand can wipe away such historical atrocities…

As a few people have pointed out, this is nothing more than a witchhunt. I for one don’t care for Kyle’s humour, but it equally irritates me how the media and community followers get on a bandwagon of feigned offense and fainting couches.

I would challenge ANYone blogging on this site to speak non-stop for three hours five days a week, trying to be funny to a average/non-elite/non academic/working/lower or middle class audience and have what you said withstand the scrutiny of those with nothing better to do other than to find fault with what you say.

You see, the thing is, all of this outrage is probably from people who have never listened to the show. What they should realise is that if his ratings drop, he will get dropped. This doesn’t seem to have happened does it? Wonder why that is! Its because there is a large section of the community that enjoys listening to him. I will continue to listen to my news and current affairs on Radio National, but I don’t see why those who like listening to him shouldn’t continue to do so.

Ah…. the serenity!!!  No more Kyle (pretty, pretty please).

I recently moved back to Sydney after many years overseas and tuned in to 2DayFM as I always used to.  I had no previous knowledge of Kyle and his TV gigs or what a ‘big’ (?) personality he was.  Over the months I found myself getting more and more ticked off with his antics (i.e stupidity & really, really unfunny stories).  The final straw being his ridiculous weight loss bet with Jackie where he was going to donate money to a pig farm if she didn’t make the target weight.  I decided then and there to do the only thing I could and NEVER listen to him again.

I was ridiculously happy that he was taken off air a short time later.  That was shortlived however when some idiot decided to put him BACK on-air.  I then decided to boycott 2DayFM entirely (apart from Hamish & Andy of course).

I for one am grateful for his latest cockup - gets him off air again.  Please god let it be permanent this time.

Surely the end is in sight when I can tune in to 2DayFM and not be subjected to his pathetic rants or indeed have to listen to any of his promo’s played in other shows.  He is ruining my Hamish & Andy experience.  Everytime I hear his voice I just want to bash the radio!!!

Sure, others may have said worse, but are those others being payed by the advertisers? NO! In most cases, the people are paying direct to see a comedian, and they are funding the salary.

Kyle is not a comedian I doubt he’d even label himself as one if his comment had actually been funny maybe everyone wouldn’t be so up in arms about it. Sure other comedians have gotten away with jokes just as tasteless but kyle does not have the ability or the brains to pull off a joke like that. At the end of the day the media hates him (or loves him I’m not sure which way it goes?) and I’m sure the majority of aussies hate him there is no way he will ever be able to rebuild a half decent reputation because everyone loves to hate him so much and will continue to scrutinise his every move until he either shifts overseas or goes into politics…

He did not say concentration camp was good or bad. He just compared how people starved inside. People are going over the issue and just to show “sympathy” to victims, asking for Kyle’s head.

I see that some contributors here, are singling out Jewish people as the main force of opposition to Sandliland’s latest despicable comments as ‘some sort of conspiracy’ against free speech. They forget that most Australian people still have a sense of decency : that throwaway jokes about ‘concentration camps’ are violently offensive to most people. The inference that he particular country where such behavior took place, ( sadly still does take in some countries)  or to whom,. is immaterial: as a pathetic and argumentative defense, for any of Sandilands’  sympathizers

So Sandilands thinks he is hard done by????!!!
The only joke and it is also bad : is that Austereo is still playing around , ‘entertaining the employment’ of this nasty moron, Sandilands.

The Government watchdogs of Media are there to guard ‘standards of general public respect’  . If they truly wished to show they had ‘real power’  and fire a warning shot to all broadcasters that ‘it is a given privlige’  BY & FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC : -they should also make Austereo go silent ‘off the airwaves’ for a period.
Wouldn’t radio stations pull up their pants quickly, and lift their game!

To the howls of indignation at such proposition .......
Let’s go back quite a few decades in Australia There was then a racing broadcaster, who had the simple temerity to get divorced. Can you comprehend the fact that he was actually banned from broadcasting at race courses for a period ?

Australia is now full of whinging, over-sensitive, spoilt, jealous nitwits. The way Aussie’s savour someones fall from grace is just sickening. Give this bloke his job back and let the listeners determine who stays and who goes.
You little small-minded tossers cannot live your own dream - so instead you take any opportunity to put shite on someone who is really doing it. Good on you mate for having a go and succeeding!

Sandilands will be sacked - the comment infringed the broadcast code of conduct and Austereo will cop a huge fine. They’ll be told that if it happens again, their licence will be revoked.

That combined with the advertisers pulling their money will ensure that Austrereo will sack Sandilands.

    • T Walsh says:

      05:49am | 10/09/09

Rich:  If your shameful comments about Sandiland’s actions, were not a sick wind -up, I think you betray both a low sense of your own family history,  and of personal self esteem . It is sad.  Your opening comment (I quote) “My grandparents were in a Polish prison camp and I do not find the joke was offensive at al|” (end) may say all we need to know, where you exactly stand..

I remind, it is not only the factor ‘of just people creating an incredibly offensive ‘joke’ - nor just the pleaded impulsive momentary reason for it -  but more importantly,  the very type of mind that was CAPABLE of creating it.. This is the main issue and nothing else..

The coward’s plea is - when they get met with opposing force - “Ahhh! I was only ......joking!”. Time, people realized Sandilands was not exactly ‘just joking’.

There is actually a type of mathematical equation formula - that comedians, given any situation - can use to create jokes. A formula that can be discussed, without any confusion, amongst real comedy practitioners. Nor does it have to have ’ test audience try-out ’ . It has to be framed as ‘some idea’  to start with.

Sandilands apparently ‘has no INBUILT stop red -button, in his head’. Why I ask, did Austereo in the first place -after his last famous accident-  need to herald having a physical one - ’ a mental nappy’  -for every time the foul Sandilands verbally soils not only himself, but anyone listening to. Sandilands.  As they say, ‘accidents happen - when Sandilands verbally deprecates - he regularly over-shoots his proposed target object!

Then he has the cheek to tell people , he created ‘no mess’ !!!!

Sandilands : both on the ‘rape talk occasion’ and this latest incident : was NOT making a joke, period!  Both, failed the ‘comedy formula test’  I described on all counts.

The rape talk business ‘was a dirty and highly intrusive query of a defenseless Minor’

The Sandilands ‘concentration camp’ affair: Betrays an expression of an unconscionable viewpoint, that offends all of what we call - Humanity.

I only hope that someone gets these stories and the accompanying radio tapes to the U.S, where it appears ’ He wants to make it Big! ’  . I am sure we will be able to hear the slammed doors,  from there…..to over here.

Freedom of speech is fact we all understand, But freedom of speech does not give him the right to offer his personal opinion while being paid as a public figure, and I might add paid very well for his time on air, maybe while oversea he should travel to Poland and visit one of the most tragic sites of mans inhumanity against his fellow man, all I can say is “think before you place foot in mouth Kyle”

    • Charles says:

Market forces are a powerful thing.  When all else fails, the application of common sense and decency are left to the ultimate arbiters - the audience.  It is they who can enforce a change through their reaction in thought & deed, with the ultimate action of not tuning in to his broadcast.

That will be Kyle’s ultimate judgement.

It seems to be a trend these days for media people like Andrew Bolt and Kyle Sandiland, to try to get involved in controversy - it must have a positive effect on the bank balance! Kyle Sandiland is obviously too immature to be in a position where his opinions are aired publicly.  He has behaved like any adolescent by trying to shock the rest of us.  Like any kid he should be cut off at the socks and ignored.

To Austereo Management - Have some guts.  Show some backbone.  Deal with your “big star” Kyle instead of cultivating his overblown ego.  Who is in charge at your station?  From the outside, it looks like Kyle Sandilands runs the place.  What do your Board and Shareholders think?

Congratulations to advertisers for doing the right thing and voting with their advertising budgets.  A company like Austereo should have been better than this.  Its leaders need to show a deeper appreciation of the responsibilities that come with having such a massive audience of listeners.

Kyle is the “type of orator who is not sure what he will say before he stands up, does not know what he is saying when he speaks and is not sure what he said when he sits down” (Churchill)

Australia surely has more impressive talent to broadcast than this imbecile.

His big mouth could loose some weight of its own.

Get over it people! Looks like an excuse to bash on Kyle again. I agree he is a twit, and it was a stupid comment to make - a comment that has been taken out of context and twisted around to something that it isnt, just to have another dig at this guy.
Freedom of speech is such a powerful blessing. we cant start silencing people just because they say something that others dont like. where will it end?
If you dont like Kyle, dont support him by listening to his show.

      T. walsh, thanks for the lecture on the comedic formula. You had better get back to your belly button, I think you missed some lint (red light***). While you work on your new and improved formula, I will be getting on with life - buying up all the businesses.  Remember that the Nazis (and other, and current despots) did/do not desensitize the majority to make them ignore the plight of the minority.  Everyone knows/knew what is going on - even you and me regarding the current situations in the world. No, they over sensitize the majority creating the illusion that small things are big. Suddenly a minor lack of employment or security is easily directed at one group. An immature word from one immature man (like me as well)  directs a mass media frenzy. Get the drift bud? Let me know when you hit your next eureka moment.

I think Kyle is an idiot and I think that rape stunt was unbelievably repulsive.  However, I think this one has been blown out of proportion.

For a start, Magda Szubanski is still overweight.  She’s the one who decided to come out in public and say she can’t possibly lose more weight. That made her fair game, especially since it’s not true.  An overweight person can lose more weight, and the fact that there are no overweight people in refugee camps in Africa or, dare I say it, concentration camps, proves that there is no such thing as not being able to lose weight.  If that were true, then some starving people would still be overweight.  That’s the point Kyle was making and, quite frankly, I think Magda brought it on herself by saying something that had the potential to give more fat people an excuse for being fat, which makes them unhealthy and reduces their lifespan.

And in relation to the concentration camp comment.  It was ill-advised, but in context, he clearly wasn’t having a go at holocaust survivors.  And honestly, I feel the jewish community sometimes use the holocaust and issues of anti-semitism in general to close down arguments and discussions and people who do this downplay the severity of both issues for their own community (in particular I’m talking about reactions to criticism of Israel’s foreign policy, but that’s another issue).  Concentration camps were found in Russia as well (more people died in those but clearly no one cares) but the eastern european and russian community didn’t kick up a stink over this.  In fact, people use the phrases such as ‘out in Siberia’ as a joke all the time, when in reality the gulags were out in Siberia and that’s what the joke’s about.

Anyway, that’s my rant.  Clearly I must be anti-semitic and anti-fat.  Labels like that are excellent tools to use in avoiding issues.

it’s all about ratings isn’t it?  in these time of tight advertising budgets, businesses are only going to advertise where people are listening….if Kyle and JO are number 1 then I’m sorry he isn’t going to be sacked. Did any of you actually hear Kyle on the radio?? He was in New Zealand when the girl was on air and obviously no one knew about the rape except for the girls mother.. He was obviously just in shock about what she had said. And seriously I don’t know what he could have possibly said. As for the concentration camp joke.. he was clearly just saying she could lose weight at one. He wouldn’t have known about her Polish ancestry. He could just have easily said she would lose weight at a fat camp..

Everyone is just out to get him for whatever reason. People who listen to the show like him and if you don’t then don’t listen to the show. It’s ridiculous to start some witch hunt over stupid comments he made that didn’t really mean anything.
