So Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are on stage performing A Steady Rain and an audience member’s mobile rings. You can read the story here.

After seeing The Boy From Oz I think Jackman is far more suited to the live environment of the theatre than the silver screen, and this shows his gift for handling the things that happen in live performances.

But the real question is: how does someone still forget to turn off their mobile in a theatre?

I don’t think it’s that people FORGET it’s that they are INCONSIDERATE!! I’ve been in cinemas where audience members not only have had their phones on, but answered and started a conversation! Because so many people do the majority of their viewing at home, society has - in general- lost the skill to consider others. I see it when I try to show films to my students (I’m an English teacher) - they cannot resist making comments or calling out, despite the constant reminders to keep their mouths shut.

I agree with Rachel, I think that person was simply inconsiderate, especially since jackman asked the person to answer the phone, and it can still be heard to ring again after that.

So - erm - this is filmed on a mobile phone, yes?

I too have been in a movie where a young “lady” answered her phone which was ringing loudly and proceeded to loudly tell her friend all about the movie and the latest gossip. She followed up on her performance by treating the packed theatre to a show of her and her boyfriend “sharing” their love in the front row! I was so angry and disgusted with her I had to tell her to shut up and that other people were around. She couldn’t have cared less. I agree with Rachel - people are so wrapped up in themselves they don’t consider others. Ushers should have intervened in this situation.
