Hey, preachers! Leave that homeopathic mum alone!
Hey angry people, don’t lash out at the silly mum who thought that homeopathy would protect her child.
She obviously genuinely thought that living a “simple and healthy way of life”, avoiding ‘toxins’ and eating organic food was an actual alternative to scientifically proven vaccinations.
(The father of the girl is probably justified in a little righteous rage, though; it’s his child, after all. )
But all those who are ripping into the mother, calling her “stupid” and “wacko” and saying she shouldn’t have been allowed to breed, turn the heat down. As the judge said, she acted in what she thought were her daughter’s best interests.
It does seem she was misguided, but sincere, so save your sneering barbs.
Bottle up that anger, that judgemental incandescent rage, and save it all for the people selling the hocus pocus homeopathic garbage.
Go after the pharmacists who stock it right next to medication, hang shit on the Government for not doing something about the snake oil merchants getting rich from the gullible.
Come out swinging against the generic political correctness that stops too many people condemning homeopathy for what it is, a scam.
Find out who’s running the websites that claim all manner of shambolic bullshit, and expose them for they are. Go after the education system that churns out people who seemingly can’t tell the difference between anecdote and data, between science and pseudo-science, between sound advice and nebulous platitudes.
Ask why in the First World with a relatively excellent public health system that should be helping parents through the first years of their children’s lives the parents of almost 31,000 children have recorded a conscientious objection to immunisation, compared with 4271 in 1999.
Don’t pick on an individual person who, conceivably, never learned what woo woo was, or how to spot a fallacious argument, or took any scientific literacy away from their education. Someone who was possibly told by trusted people that homeopathy, an irrelevant ingredient often diluted to the point of non-existence, was somehow a genuine alternative to vaccination.
Save all the fire up for the people who really deserve it.
